Then I stand corrected.

Of course, this is what I get for trying to remember back more than two weeks ago...

Understandable.
The only reason I remember all of this is because the 1st time I ever turned on CC it was specifically to see WTF this "Southpark" show was that everybody and their grandmother was talking about on campus. It just so happened that was the night the infamous April Fools joke show aired.

I remember thinking "Southpark sucks arse".

ETA: amazing to think Southpark created such a buzz on LSU's campus (and every other college campus) before the internet really took hold.

Only 3 seasons? I remember watching that religiously the 1st season, then it got stale very quickly.

This show was sooooo outside CC's normal programing that if you had asked me what channel Battlebots had aired on I wouldn't have been able to tell you before reading that link.

What if the last seven episodes are a big seven parter series finale?

I'm actually thinking this may be the case.

Yeah, I was remembering that, too. And people used to get together to watch it. It had an immediate cult following among 20 somethings.

no doubt South Park was a big part of what made CC relevant

sure Daily Show was important as well, and the limited run of Dave Chappel was huge but South Park was controversial and really put a ton of attention of the show and the channel it was on

As far as the episode, that was very strange and I dont know what to think about the direction of the show now. This next episode will be very telling.

I don't remember what shows were on Comedy Central before South Park but I know there was a shiteton of Gallagher on there. The Sledge-O-Matic cracked me up as a 10 year old.

The entire show seemed like a big swan song.

The plot was Stan getting older and realizing that everything was shite. He turned into a giant cynic and lost all of his friends. Everything just seemed to be the same after a while.

This could easily related to Matt and Trey getting burned out on the show. They just rip everything now and it's probably getting pretty old to them at this point. In fact, now its expected that the rip on any and every current news event and it probably starts to all sound the same to them after awhile.

I agree that the fight between Randy and Shannon was Matt and Trey's true feelings. Every week they're expected to tear down whatever is the topic de jour and then reset for next week.

The more I thought about it last night, the more I realized how brilliant that last scene actually was.

I agree and it also seemed like they stayed away from current events this season and this may have been a response to the people who keep asking why they haven't ripped on such and such. But I think it was just them venting more than an actual swan song.

+1111111

After it ended I kept thinking how bad I disliked that episode (even knowing while Randy and Shannon were fighting that it was obvious that was Matt and Trey.) but then I keep thinking about it. I almost hope they go out like that. What if they just walked away from it all?

May not be the greatest finale episode ever, but throwing a series finale in the middle of a season with the message that "we're just tired of this shite" and not letting anyone know about until after would be the best single departure in T.V. history.

It would also be a perfect ending for Matt and Trey.

Did anyone see Matt and Trey on the Late Show a couple months ago? They admitted doing South Park is hard work and isn't fun. After last night's episode, one can surmise this might be the beginning of the end. I hope I'm wrong, but it's hard not to wonder.

yes...it was the perfect ending in my eyes...perfect. If they are only going to do 7 more, I'd rather them just walk away with that as the finale

No way.

The ending to one of the greatest cartoons ever is Stan's parents getting a divorce? Lame. There needs to be some sort of resolution to the show.

Pretty bad ending for Stan, but I could see this as a series finale and wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be true.

14 1/2 seasons is a hell of a ride, I wouldn't think ill of them for stepping away.
