Disneys response...

quote:

While the studio isn't abandoning its plan to release one Star Wars feature per year, insiders concede Disney and Lucasfilm aren't likely to release two Star Wars movies so close together again, regardless of whether they are anthology films, like Solo, which tells of Han Solo's beginnings, or part of the official episodes, like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its follow-up, The Last Jedi. (Some fans complained about Last Jedi, which could have dampened enthusiasm for Solo.)

"There's a question of frequency, and how many times people will go to the movies. Is this too much and too soon for a third time in a five-week period?" says Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis, suggesting Solo's underwhelming start may have been affected by those two preceding movies.

We have a lot of work to do in trying to understand this," says Hollis. "We are all over it and will spend a lot of time digging into why things happened the way they did in various markets. We have a year and a half before Episode IX comes out."

When I went, me and a friend had center tickets, front row of the stadium seating. (Row 5)
We got in the middle of two couples already there.

When the movie started I realized there were more people in our row than behind us.

The next night I saw DP2 again.
The only empty seats were the handicapped seats.

I was expecting to see DP2 beat it this week

It has nothing to do with frequency. Goddamn these people are dense.

People will go if you just make a quality movie that doesn't suck or isn't a reheated piece of shite.

I can't believe the current Star Wars mess is handled under the same umbrella that made the MCU and Infinity Wars.

GO ASK THEM. THEY WORK IN YOUR frickING OFFICE.

Was also really stupid to put it in the same month as IW.

WITH a July release they would have done better.

I think the only large blockbuster type movie yet to come out is Mission Impossible.(I go to the theaters weekly and cannot remember the last film that didn't have the. MI trailer in front)

Right.

Want to save Star Wars, come out with a Russo Brothers film.
Lol
At the least realize that everything, I mean everything has been misdone since Disney bought Star Wars.

They should have never thrown out the EU.
First trilogy child have been the Thrawn trilogy.
Then a knights of the old Republic. Instead we got a remake of New Hope and a remake of Speed 2

TBF, the expectations are different for star wars. IMO, I don't think Solo or TLJ are any worse than a majority of the MCU films. Several MCU films did lower than 500 mil, yet no one was freaking out like we're seeing now with solo.

Just so you know, I don't agree with your opinion and neither do most.

Just curious, how would you know this?

Anyways, you really believe Solo is not as good as say the IM sequels, the first two Thor films, IH, ant man, et? Give me a break.

If you had told me a couple years ago that I'd spend a rainy Memorial Day choosing to see Deadpool 2 over a Star Wars movie, I would have laughed in your stupid face....but that's exactly what happened.

I went and saw IW for the second time instead of Solo this weekend. And I have never read any of the Marvel comics and grew up a huge SW fan

I haven't seen Solo, but I agree with your premise that it probably isn't as shitty as a few of the MCU movies we got along the way. I would say that I would rather watch any of those movies vs TLJ

The MCU is getting more frequent and making more and more money. SW is getting more frequent and making significantly less money. And the numbers on the MCU are even better when considering inflation.

You said "majority". It is pretty easy to go anywhere and find that most people approve of the MCU's typical movie over TLJ.

And yes TLJ was worse than all of the ones you mentioned. You can't cherry pick the 4 worse films when saying most. When there are 19 of them lol. But it is still the worst.

We get it you don't like the MCU and you let it clowd the facts. Just how you over predicted solo and under predicted Infinity Wars. Making a good movie matters and TLJ is a disgrace.

No doubt...just saying, IMO, expectations are much higher for star wars films. It's a demanding fan base.

3 weeks ago, they were saying 170. Before the weekend, 130.
