Very quick upvote there. I wonder who that was from?

So the takeaway from the last few hours is that Argonuat is a SW shill and thinks the movie has already made a profit?
For a major premier on memorial day weekend it looks like it's bombing. Anecdotally, I was sitting at a moviehouse bar tonight for a bit and all the folks coming by were going to see Deadpool, not Solo.
Word of mouth, at least here, is that Solo is meh at best, not terrible, but it doesn't add anything to the SW universe.

This is basically what eveyone said.
Shame, had it been just a standard heist movie, it mightve been great and started it own universe, but instead it's another studio piece of reheated diarrhea.

Out of curiosity, how much does Disney pay you?
Or is Kathleen Kennedy your mom?

I haven't seen it, but was told the heist part is basically a firefly ripoff with minimal changes.

LOOK at all those downvotes

I feel Breesus and OMLandshark are constantly pissed about something.

Why do these movies have to add anything significant to the Star Wars universe for them to be considered great movies in their own right?

Because the studio made the decision to put Star Wars in the title.

frick.
I have to update my official upvote/downvote ratio on my resume.
Oh what a cruel world we live in! What a twisted destiny fate weaves! Why did I let my posting run wild!
Oh my hubris! My pride! I deserve this! I deserve everything!

That is dumb. The episodic films drive the broader narrative forward. The anthology films merely provide an opportunity to focus on individual characters or fill in narrative gaps between the episodic films.

shite. They’ll add another 5 pages tomorrow if estimates come out that it won’t even break 100 million on an extended holiday weekend.
It’ll just get bloody from there because it’s doubtful it will even hit 250 million domestic if that happens.

BTW, a common studio metric to gauge audience word of mouth perception of the movie is called an internal multiplier. This is NOT something really applicable to “Star Wars fatigue” because it is looking at the ratio of opening day revenue and the weekend. Not overall numbers. If there was true franchise fatigue, the Friday numbers would have been weaker making it easier to get a higher score.
The most popular movies generally score a 3.0, where the bottom rung is around 2.3.
Solo scored a 2.34
By comparison, Jumanji, which got great word of mouth, scored a 2.93.

i watched it on my movie pass the other day - the wife and I came out of it thinking it was just ok - nothing special. certainly not worth repeated viewings.
she is a HUGE firefly fan, and when the train came on screen she goes - yup - they ripped off the Train Robbery episode of Firefly LOL.
I didn't want it to bomb, but I also didn't expect it to really do anything. but then again i'm a jaded frick for them doing away with the old EU in the books - that Han Solo history would have been amazing on film.

Appears the verdicts are in:
--- Solo nets 83 million. Well short of the most conservative estimates.
--- Solo a box officce disappointment
--- ‘Solo’ Sputters at Box Office, Raising Worries of ‘Star Wars’ Fatigue
Let's see you couple posters spin this.
