I think this becomes relevant to the Fantastic Beasts arc that's being made into movies now though

So Huffington Post asks them if he’s a pansexual, which is a strange question to ask given that it's hard to see what makes it different than bisexual which is more well-known and easily understood anyways.
And the writer's response to a strange and random question is basically "Sure. We wanted to explore it but we couldn't and I'm not going to say why we couldn't but it's a time that someone else does it."
That just seems like he realized what the interviewer was trying to do, and the audience that they were catering to it. He told them what he wanted to hear, pretended he wanted it to, gives an excuse that they couldn't, and puts the responsibility onto someone in the future instead of trying to explain why they couldn't.
Seems like he's just BSing and telling them what they want to hear so they will spend money watching it with their biases confirmed in their own mind.

Hey, you remember that cool, masculine, lady-killer character from back in the day?
We have him sucking cocks now, and taking dicks in the arse. Is that cool with all you male Star Wars fans?
For frick's sake.

Lets also not forget how he tried to put the moves on Leia in Empire.
Clearly not heterosexual.

In the House of Mouse,
Marvel Studios social narration > Lucasfilm social narration
Marvel Studios social narration > Lucasfilm social narration

Sure, they want the kudos for being progressive and enlightened but nobody has the balls to write and shoot the scene of Lando giving Chewbacca a blowjob.
This right here. The wisest thing said in this thread.
Such hypocrisy. Such cowardice. If the writer wants a character’s sexual orientation to be part of his canon-endorsed image, then SHOW IT. Don’t tell it after the fact. Otherwise, it’s irrelevant. Show Lando taking it in the arse from a Wookiee. Otherwise, shut up about it. It’s one thing to retro-characterize Lando, but a whole other galaxy of brave to show it on screen. Now, we all know why they won’t show it. Because the one thing they worship more than their liberal agenda is their real god, $$$$$$$$.
Interviews like this are the height of bullshite. You are a writer of the greatest film franchise on planet earth. You control the fates of characters that have inspired billions of viewings. And you’re afraid to have Lando say on screen, “yeah. I’m down for whatever. Women, men, Ewoks... you name it.” But you will say that in an interview later?
So you, Star Wars writer, MEANT to make him a pansexual. But you didn’t. Because of cash. Okay. Thanks for clarifying that, dumbass.

You think Johnny Depp's Grindelwald is going to bury his Elderwand in Jude Law's Dumbledore?

This fan fiction is all well and good, but in the 3 Star Wars films that I recognize, Lando is a straight pimp.
Period.
Period.

It’s like they’re trying to piss off the consumer.

I'm torn on this. It did seem after the fact just to annoy people, especially since it was the church who usually pushed boycotting these evil witch/warlock books, but reading through them again, especially the accounts of Dumbeldore and Grindewald, it's not a reach at all. He had never been married. The closes thing he got to a relationship was with a boy in high school, you can see it happening. It's not something that adds to the story, but it makes a certain demographic feel good and I'm not going to get angry about it, so whatever.

Pansexual means being sexually attracted to whoever, male or female. I think pansexual only became a term (since we already had bi) when gender identity really took off.

Do we have to show every straight character getting it on to prove that point?

To be honest (and this is from someone who has been, and is still, looking forward to the Solo film), I'm no fan of retconning existing characters in order to profit from the popular social movements of the day. It's demeaning to the art, the character, and to the social movement.
What I like even less, is for a creator to tell us after the fact that a character is a secret minority. That, regardless of his statements and actions (or lack there of) in the book or film, the character was in fact secretly gay or black or Catholic or whatever. And when it's someone who isn't the original creator, but who was given existing characters, it's exceptionally shitty to manufacture an agenda off-screen.

Neither is George Takei, who is the gay actor who portrays the real Hikaru Sulu, a straight character, in the Star Trek universe.
