“Mindhunter” star Holt McCallany recently revealed to CBR that he has spoken with David Fincher about the potential return of the acclaimed Netflix serial killer drama, which ran for two seasons in 2017 and 2020. The show centered on FBI agents in the late 1970s as they launch a task force to interview serial killers as a way of understanding their pathology. If “Mindhunter” does return, however, it won’t be as a series.

“I had a meeting with David Fincher in his office a few months ago, and he said to me that there is a chance that it may come back as three two-hour movies, but I think it’s just a chance,” McCallany revealed. “I know there are writers that are working, but you know, David has to be happy with scripts.”

That would be fantastic. They could continue on with the BTK storyline.

Fincher is in preproduction with Tarantino on his next series with Brad Pitt attached.

It would be the greatest project in the history of Netflix.

Fincher could likely ask for anything at this point and Netflix would have to say yes. If continuing Mindhunter is a passion project for Fincher, this is likely a done deal.

But is it though? I’ve always had the impression that he quickly moves on from projects and never seems that attached to anything. I held on to hope of him finishing the girl with the dragon tattoo trilogy for far too long lol. I hope I’m wrong, and they are able to close out the show in some form or fashion.

Unfortunately, I think Fincher used his deal with Netflix to give them a big hit with Mindhunter so he could to pursue other projects on their platform that were his true passion.

Now that those projects are largely done, hopefully he’s now circling back to Mindhunter to wrap that up.

If this comes back with a return of Taboo on the horizon I'd be a happy man.

I doubt it’s as much of a passion project as it is something he just wants to finish and see have a conclusion

He’s prepping a film with Pitt, not a series. And it goes until December, which means he will editing until the summer.

He’s also circling a US squid game … a Chinatown series is also in limbo. Busy schedule and I seriously doubt he revisits Mindhunter. At least not in 2026
