This didn’t age well. The actor who plays Mr Rooney Jeffrey Jones was later arrested on child porn charges.

Ferris had to have a good excuse to get Simone out of her class and excused from school. So if Cam blew it with a bad impression then the whole plan goes up in smoke.
Once she was outside, he just said frick it. But he needed an initial reason to get her outside without too much attention.
exactly this. It's not confusing in any way that he would have 2 different reactions and 2 different states of mind considering it's 2 entirely different circumstances who knows how long apart.

Is a 30+ Y/O John Hughes Comedy really being debated in a serious manner? Another thread with people trying to apply current social values to older films.
All I have to say is I was in my 20's during the 1980's and it was a helluva lot more fun decade. Maybe one of the best ever.

The only thought that particular scene triggers for me is what a real sack 'a shite Ferris is.
He's a manipulative, lying sociopath who takes advantage of Cameron's mental illness for his own gain. There's no doubt in my mind that Ferris, today would be a corporate CEO.
Ferris is what we would refer to as a high functioning, successful sociopath.
If you're going to break it down like this... don't stop there.
Let's just go ahead and address the elephant in the room. Cameron was nothing more than a sexual predator. He pretended to be catatonic just to see sloane get undressed/dressed by the hot tub and take a close up look at her goodies. That's sexual assault in today's world.
And the way she smiled when she learned the truth? You just know that ole slutty Sloane was sneaking up to visit Cameron at his college on the weekends. They definitely ended up getting married to each other.

Any (useful or relevant) thoughts?
I'd have made out with Sloane also...

These over analyzing threads are meant to be fun, nobody is actually upset over anything

Seems like she was always in the hall when everyone else was in class. And leaving school early as well (maybe she was a senior?).
Ferris is a senior, you think they might be twins? I always assumed Jeanie was younger

I read the book when I was a kid. In it, she is clearly portrayed as a year or two behind him in school. That makes the fact that she got a car and he didn’t even more crazy

Cameron isn't real, he is clearly just Ferris's conscious.

Let's dive into this theory.
If Cameron isn't real, then whose Ferrari did they use for the day?

I’ve heard the opposite. Ferris is Cameron’s alter ego.

False.
"Pussy is undefeated"
True.

quote:Really? That's always been one of the most over-the-top flourishes in a movie that has plenty of them. I would say you're thinking too hard - it's not really more ridiculous than the car magically appearing from behind the moving school bus.
I never really thought about that before last night

Essentially, the film is Cameron's fantasy. Ferris is, for all practical purposes, his imaginary friend.
Or, perhaps this is all a dream of Cameron's "perfect" day.
Either of those things moots your concerns.
