So I caught Ferris Bueller last night and something bothered me… (overanalyze thread?)

Early on, when Ferris and Cameron are already skipping and are together, Cam makes the phone call to Mr. Rooney and pretends to be Mr. Peterson. He suggests that Rooney have Sloane meet out front alone, and Ferris freaks out. So then Cam says to have Rooney meet out front with her, and Ferris loses his shite and slaps Cam (then kicks him).
They fight about it (which is hilarious), and Ferris is mad and he says “how are we supposed to pick her up if Rooney is there…?” Valid point for sure. He even manages to parlay that into taking the Ferrari, which was an added bonus to the day.
However, when they go to pick up Sloane at school and he pulls his “do you have a kiss for daddy?” move, he makes out with her (as her dad) while Rooney is right there. So clearly he doesn’t give a frick about getting busted in front of Rooney. So why did he freak out so badly when Cam was on the phone? I never really thought about that before last night but it sort of bothered me that he physically assaults Cameron only to then around and pull a far riskier (and stupid) move 30 minutes later that could’ve gotten them all in big trouble.
Any (useful or relevant) thoughts?

That’s not assault. That’s how real friends were back in the day

Because Ferris was Tyler Durdin

It's more bothersome that they fit 18 hours of activities into an 8 hour school day.
Also, Mia Sara (Sloan) shows tits in timecop. Not relevant, but still.

Tits are always relevant.

If Sloane was my daughter I would make out with her also.

For the rest of us, life moves pretty fast. But for Ferris, it seemingly moves as slowly as he sees fit.
Ferris timeline
I always felt they should have taken time to ride the Ferris wheel at Navy Pier. Since the Ferris wheel was named after the man who built and engineered the famous amusement ride, George Ferris. For the Chicago worlds fair. I assume that’s why he was named Ferris.

It was an opportunity for a good laugh, so the director took it.
It’s not like Ferris was scared of taking risks. Ferris has superhuman ability to push risks to the max without getting caught.

The only thought that particular scene triggers for me is what a real sack 'a shite Ferris is.
He's a manipulative, lying sociopath who takes advantage of Cameron's mental illness for his own gain. There's no doubt in my mind that Ferris, today would be a corporate CEO.
Ferris is what we would refer to as a high functioning, successful sociopath.

I enjoy the movie very much so. I guess you missed the part about useful comments.

I like that kind of thinking. Never thought of it like that but it makes a lot of sense honestly.

Agree with most of that as well.
Another thing that stood out to me was how much Jeanie skipped class. Seems like she was always in the hall when everyone else was in class. And leaving school early as well (maybe she was a senior?).

Goofy shite? It’s a comedy.

Would have been a clever idea if a Ferris wheel existed at Navy Pier then.
When the movie came out, Navy Pier was an empty dump where no one would go to hang out. The Ferris wheel was built in the mid 90s when the area was refurbished into a tourist attraction.

Ferris had to have a good excuse to get Simone out of her class and excused from school. So if Cam blew it with a bad impression then the whole plan goes up in smoke.
Once she was outside, he just said frick it. But he needed an initial reason to get her outside without too much attention.
But it's not Inception or whatever, so if you overanalyze comedies like that you're wasting a lot of time in life.

Now there's a modern take if I ever saw one.
