Didn’t they think it was something else before they took it? Like something from Petey? They seemed disappointed when they opened the package.
Exactly. The initial book getting into the hands of the innies was completely innocuous.

I have a nagging feeling that this is going to end up similar to Lost. A lot of silly situations & loose ends as well as unopened mystery boxes. Or more mystery boxes that lead to nowhere. But so far, they have been able to push forward with interesting plot lines.
We'll see how tightly it unfolds but my guess is that Lost is likely serving as a template of how not do things.
I definitely think Severance will benefit from being written post-Lost.
Here's what the show's creator said in a Reddit AMA:

I have a last scene in mind, and a lot of the story that will get us there. Trying to find the balance of having a plan and letting the show have its own life and grow organically based on what works.

I do not believe we have seen the "outside world"
The outies are still within Lumon control
My working theory is that the outies are actually the true severed

he had immediate replies and quirps. Didnt look any more easy than helena. He ran to his car and all that stuff after staring into her eyes and either saw or realized something
After the credits the showrunners all but confirmed he didn't have a memory of her, but it was such a weird interaction it just made him realize something was up so he needed to rush the procedure.

Hope they don't try and leave this all up to last scene or even last episode. They need to give the audience something by the end of the season. Don't think it would be smart to leave this season on another big cliffhanger if you don't give us something.
One of LOST biggest problems was they kept throwing in so much stuff and never gave you anything along the way. So by the end you had a million questions and it's impossible to answer them. The number of questions are really starting to add up though. and we (sadly) are over halfway through this season.

A lot has already been revealed - Helena on the severed floor, Mark S reintegration, Burt and Irv's outies meeting, etc. This isn't Silo where they take a whole season to get to one point and leave it on a cliffhanger. Lots has happened in my opinion, but they aren't going to answer everything now and not have a show.

Not giving us anything is probably the wrong way of putting it. More of not giving us anything big.
I mean but that was really just a 1 to 2 episode mystery that pretty much everyone knew already.
Great story line. Probably what I'm looking forward to the most the rest of the season.
Which is leading to more questions.
Lot's has happened, I'm not saying that it hasn't. This is my favorite show on television, I'm certainly enjoying the ride. I've been staying out of this thread because I don't want to see stuff figured out before it happens. I'm just saying that I don't want to see it go the route of LOST that so much builds up that by the end it's impossible to answer everything. Because there is a lot already building up. All that being said, there's still four episodes left in this season that will sort a lot of things out I'm sure.

a lot of shows would have held onto that for an entire season though

I agree. I have enjoyed the series, but it's starting to wear a little thin with me. We keep screwing around with weird stuff like the goat hill, and not getting to the root of the really big questions.

quote:I agree with Salmon, a lot of shows would have dragged this out the entire season with hints and teases at a reveal, only to find out at the end of the season. Instead, they dropped the hints, let people speculate and revealed before mid-season.

I do understand the LOST concerns, but I don't see Dan/Ben going the way of JJ/Damon. JJ threw a whole bunch of shite at the wall and wasn't even around for the most part and had Damon/Cuse trying to put it all together.
Dan/Ben have explained their process pretty well, which was summed up in an earlier post. Dan has written and is constantly writing, the show has an ending and they know what it is. However, they don't know how everything is going to be received so there is room within the show to adapt to what is working and what may not be. That's the organic part, but that doesn't mean it's not thought out.
Then again, I may just be having blind faith because I've been impressed with the interviews and explanations.

at people who want season 5 answers in the first season and a half of a show. Come on people enjoy this ride.
The journey is the fun part. If they just gave us the ending, everyone would be, "okay, what's next."

Folks try to get to into the weeds. Eff that. Just shut up and sit back and enjoy. This is top tier entertainment and all little bitches want to do is worry. Good grief.
Oh god, what if they don’t tell me about the polar bear.
STFU!

I love to get into the weeds of intelligent shows that aren't an A-B-C narrative. It's interesting and you know Ben/Dan and the cast enjoy it too. They are all bought in, just listen to any non-spoiler interviews and they all have their thoughts.
Even Patricia Arquette is so hilarious talking about, why do you want me for this show, I don't understated what is going on.
It's too good.

I did word it wrong, getting in the weeds with a show like this is fun, just can’t stand Debbie Downers that look at every little minute thing and start worrying they won’t get an answer, it will be Lost all over again. Lost was fine and it was a fun show too.
But you know once the show ends there will be somebody saying, it sucked, they never even showed us how Dylan got all those finger traps.

O frick off. God forbid someone hope that a show doesn't end like LOST. Which the ending was universally viewed as a disaster. I literally said this is my favorite show on television and one of my favorites in the past five years or so, It's a message board that is having general discussion about the show, I was just saying what I hope the show doesn't do. I obviously wasn't alone in thinking that either. I'll refrain from giving my opinion in here anymore so no worries.

How dare you question his favorite show and the way it's moving?!? You will take the way they do it and like it, dammit!!

The thing is I don't want 5 seasons of this show.
