I can’t wait for Disney to call the few Star Wars fans they haven’t run off homophobes because they don’t want to watch Luke take it in the arse.

Rumour has it that during the next SW Celebration, Lucasfilm will announce an upcoming live action show, following Luke Skywalker.

The show will also feature Han Solo and Princess Leia, and will probably take place around the same time as ‘The Mandalorian’

Would you want this?
This just goes to show how badly Lucasfilm (before AND after Disney took over) has mismanaged things...

Do I want MORE Star Wars of Luke, Han and Leia, in the years immediately following Return of the Jedi?

YES. HELL YES. Far more than I ever wanted the childhood of Darth, an exploration of the Jedi, the Sith, the fallen Republic, or any of the other stuff that came out of the prequels. Like every other Star Wars fan, that's what I most deeply desired for decades after the original wrapped up. And they could have given us that, while the actors were still the correct age to do so.

But...
1) I don't want a recast. I'd rather they go with CGI/fake like Luke in Mando, than recast like Solo.

2) I fear what "new adventures" they would write, in this current climate of breaking down heroes and subverting expectations.

3) Their stupid-arse sequel trilogy closed the door on that story. We know what successes they have will be fleeting and failed, we already know the fate of the New Republic. There will be no mysteries or exciting cliffhangers, a "what will come next"... it's all been completely spoiled.
Invasion from beyond the Galaxy? Doesn't matter, we know it's not going to work, and it won't be enough of a threat to force all factions to work together. Luke meets Mara Jade? Doesn't matter, she's gone and his life is a failure later on, so I don't want to watch some temporary relationship that won't last.

frick those sequels.

Exactly. They fricked up Luke’s character beyond repair for a full series, barring the sequels being fully retconned. Its cool for a brief cameo of him training Grogu since he’s not yet a lost cause and has 800 years left possibly to make a legendary story out of.

Give us KOTOR or a show around Maul and Crimson Dawn

New Luke Skywalker show, new LOTR movies. There was a time I'd be super excited. Now I just kind of dread it.

That's where I'm at, too.

We're in some sort of funk in movies and such, right now. It was that way in the early 70's, everything had to be dystopian then. Now, it seems like everything has to 'subvert expectations' with a tricky ending, and deconstruct classic heroes.

Star Wars came out in the mid-late 70s, and one of the big draws was that it WASN'T pessimistic. It was unashamedly hopeful and positive. Empire tempered that some, but only to add drama, not to become a bleak tale.

Until this fad passes, I'd just as soon they leave stuff alone. We don't need "a new take" on Tolkien, or on the OT Star Wars characters. It's a shame, as the technology is there to make fantastic shows.

Can we just get rid of the Luke Skywalker era Star wars for now and Dive into the future to the ancient past like KOTOR

I'm surprised they haven't developed anything with the Old Republic yet. I wonder if they have any weird rights tie-ups with the video game companies.

At this point, we're probably more likely to get two seasons of Luke hanging out at Tosche Station.

Making Luke gay or some other alphabet thing will kill the franchise for all time. They won't do it, but not because they don't want to....but because ultimately they cannot.

Didn't we already see an adult Luke in the Mandalorian?!?!?!

ETA Is this in the multi-verse?

I would love either but right now Disney I am afraid would screw that up. Hopefully they will shelve any idea pertaining to those until down the road when someone that actually has vision can make them without having our current culture give direction.

If they would just put on the screen what is in the EU without current climate pressure it could work but that will never happen.
