I'm not concerned that RDJr might not pull this off. It's almost worse if he nails it.

What's that say about the brain trust over at the MCU, they knowingly rely on an actor whose character was THE foundation to their cinematic universe but they CHOSE to kill off, thinking the next batch would simply pick up the mantle and go forward.

Brie Larson (done with Marvel)
Johnathan Majors (off screen legal issues)
Florence Pugh (Not Scarlett Johansson)
Tom Holland
Anthony Mackie (Captain African American Falcon)
Benedict Cumberbatch
Iman Vellani
Dominique Thorne?

Really?

And now they're totally out of ideas, and need to revive the one who started all of this but cast him as a villain? Won't anyone notice the odd resemblance he has to Tony?

This is Amazon Rings of Power level cringe.

Hey, don't go reading into things I didn't come out and say.

I heard well before this movie lots of folks would show up. Some did, others didn't.

You know that was dumb. Just admit it, it's ok to admit when you screw up sometimes.

So...now that I've thought more about this RDJ hire, the less excited I am about it. Hope I'm just reading too much into it.

They signed RDJ up for 2 movies to play Doom? Does that mean we only get Doom in two films? That would be a criminal underuse of this character.

I know you can do it. Just say my bad.

Agreed. If RDJ had signed on to play the character for as long as he did Iron Man, I’d be all for it.

All indications are that it’s just two movies. Which sucks

Yeah...hopefully they'll use it as a vehicle to introduce a different Doom or something because using Doom for just 2 movies seems like a total waste.

If I had to guess, RDJ only agreed to two movies so he can come back after Secret Wars and demand something crazy like the ownership of Disneyland or a billion up front. He’s also getting offers for roles outside the MCU after his Oscar win so I doubt he wants to commit to another role like Iron Man for another decade.

I understand why RDJ wouldn't want to sign on for anything longer.

I don't understand how that benefits the MCU beyond those two movies.

Exactly and that’s why is feels like a cheap/desperate move.

This is why the multiverse storyline sucks and is part of the reason why comic book sales started declining but that’s a whole different conversation.

So RDJ will come back as a variant and everyone will purchase tickets to see him as a villain and I’m sure he’ll square off with Tom Holland at some point for some extra hype. Then the Avengers save the world and everything comes into a single universe and we’ll hit the reset button.

Doom could’ve been handled so many different ways but they went this route. As the best villain in Marvel, the character deserved better.
