RDJ cast as Doom reeks of desperation

I think it's more just laziness. Trying to bring back what worked without fixing the root problem of why it isn't working now.

This is precisely what’s going on. And it’s a shame but if done right, Doom is a top tier villain. I’m afraid they are going to “Disney” him up. The only hope I have is that the Russo’s are directing and they nailed Thanos.

everyone up in arms about this - how about waiting a little to see how they introduce him as Doom, and then choose whether to be outraged or not.

The fact that they’re doing what’s probably the 2015 Secret Wars storyline makes it seem like this Doom will be pretty dark. I haven’t read all of it (planning onto now) but from what I know we got God Emperor Doom who dwarfs Thanos in power. Also we will likely get a reset at the end of Secret Wars likely will give Marvel a chance for a break

The only way it makes sense is if RDJ absolutely crushes AND he dies which sets up them to recast Doom properly. But even then…if RDJ does crush, people will simply want him back just like they do Iron Man and now they’ll force two new actors to follow in some extremely large footsteps of two iconic characters in Iron Man and Doom.

It just wasn’t smart tbh. There’s no way they couldn’t find a big name with chops to do Doom. You trying to tell me Fassbender wouldn’t have owned that role? Doom is my favorite Marvel villain. I hate they rehashed RDJ

I'm sure this question will be lost in the discussion, but what do I have to watch to catch up for this...since End Game we have watched some things but not all. Watched season 1 of Loki, sounds like we need to finish season 2. I think we're caught up on Spiderman, saw Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Thor Love and Thunder was dumb, we saw that and I doubt it matters, but we didn't watch Eternals or any other series that might be there. I don't go to theaters for anything, so we have plenty of time to catch up.

Whatever happened to Shang Chi? That was a good movie. Did I miss a 2nd?

Nah frick waiting, frick Disney. Feige lost his mojo years ago. This is a desperate ploy to save a sinking ship.

RDJ is Stark, that’ll never change. I’d feel the same if they cast Evans, Hemsworth, Renner, or even worthless arse Ruffalo.

You don’t take the OG Avenger cast and make one of them one of the most anticipated Villains to be out on screen.

Even with a mask, I hate it.

Hell, cast Julian McMahon again. Or better yet find an actual Eastern European with charisma

RDJ holding his arms up at the reveal is pure cringe.

Lap it up Disney lap dogs, lap it up.

This is like Gunn casting Cavill as Lex Luthor in his new Superman universe.

The reverence the Russos have for Doom is what makes me excited for this. They’ve said for years the only way they would come back to Marvel is specifically to do Secret Wars with Doctor Doom. Feige knows the importance of Doom and the F4 within the Marvel universe. And RDJ seems to have a lot of respect for the source material of the comics (unlike some of these actors who actively shite all over the source material of their characters). I don’t think Downey would risk coming back like this unless the opportunity was perfect imo

Also Stephen McFeely is writing this, the same guy who wrote Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame with the Russos. I have a lot more faith in this group compared to these morons who openly mock the source material while the MCU went off the rails post Endgame

It is. I know I don't like gay sex. I don't have to know anything about it more than its gay.

Check out Avengers: Time Runs Out by Jonathan Hickman. It leads directly into Secret Wars as all hell starts breaking loose with incursions going on in the multiverse, and the Avengers/F4/Xmen are all trying to make sense of what is happening. Meanwhile, Doom is 10 steps ahead and has figured out exactly what is going on and recruits Dr Strange to help him turn the Beyonders’ big plan on themselves.

The Doom/Strange relationship is really awesome and the moment they confront the Beyonders is iconic. And it shows what a total unflinching badass Doom is as he confronts these omnipotent beings, knowing if his uno reverse plan doesn’t work, he and the entire multiverse is about to die in the worst way possible.

I haven’t seen it mentioned but the Fantastic Four footage shown last night is all over tiktok and twitter. It appears they are leaning very heavily into the retro futurist 60’s vibe

Hopefully Marvel is goign to get it's shite in order and get back to the basics. Enough of this Woke/Boss girl crap and give us the hero's we want......

Deadpool should be their real wake up call.

I like the look too. But the future of the MCU will depend on how they integrate the F4 and X-Men into modern times. Because I’m sure Secret Wars will see A LOT of recasts for core members

they Introduced it too soon to got to FF and xMen too late. not every movie in this last stretch needed the multiverse.

You need the multiverse to introduce XMen because otherwise where were they during the whole Thanos thing?

sure you can give the FF their powers post thanos but the XMen?
