One person excited for the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story happens to be Rian Johnson, who will be able to enjoy the surprises of the new movie like the rest of us — as a fan. Johnson spoke with ComicBook.com at the AARP Movies for Grownup Awards, where we asked if he knew about the Super Bowl trailer debut.

"I knew it was coming, but I was still…" said Johnson. "I was clicking, clicking, clicking, 'yeah, yeah!' And I think it looks so beautiful. I can't wait for people to see more of the film – it's so fun, it's so funny. The cast is so charismatic, and I think they all just did a great job with it."

When Ron Howard was asked to respond, he only had three words to say: "You're not helping."

frick it.

Who cares at this point?

Maybe the franchise has played itself out. I hope Disney fricking eats a big dick from buying the rights.

THey had had a chance to use Disney power to make something awesome...

And instead we got...

Popular lazy PC formula bullshite.

It has.

I've come to accept it. Star Wars exists as an excellent, culture-influencing trilogy that started in the late 70s and concluded in the mid 80s.

How much more story do you really need?

Mel Brooks is still alive and kicking. It's not too late for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money.

We are getting these Star Wars films way too soon. We need time in between. Go back to a new film every 3 years, not 6 months

i think this is where we are actually.

Even setting aside all the problems with TLJ, I remember sitting there thinking "damn, Leia is old as dirt and she's STILL doing this? And it's going to continue on well past her? And began well before her?" And then it hit me that there's really not that much you can do with Star Wars besides having wars among the stars. Sure they can and should do things within that framework that's more interesting than what they've done, but its by definition a limited canvas.

Rian specifically pointed to a scene where Lando is leading a Black Lives Matter protest that is then broken up by stormtroooers and then Han swoops in to save the day and subsequently forever denounces his white privilege

I don't think it's that limited. There's plenty of space related movies and shows, ie Star Trek. The major issue with the Star Wars universe, as I see it, is that casual fans don't really care for the universe outside of the original main characters.

If it's don't right, a young Han Solo project should do pretty well. People are resistant to the idea of someone other than Ford playing Han, and I get that. But they do care about the character.

I say all of this as someone who thought TFA was fine, thought Rogue One was an attempt to give a back story where one wasn't needed, still hasn't seen TLJ, and never got into the extended universe.
