Lettermans "long-form" format on Netflix is great. There is just so much information online and instantly and every celebrity is blasting this info live that it just doesn't have much pizzazz. Kind of like the ASG in sports, it used to serve a purpose, but now you can see these guys any given night.

As the closest to Gutfeld's numbers, Colbert is the first loser.

I mean let's be honest, if Jimmy Fallon and Gutfield swapped places, the Fox show is going to have the better ratings and The Tonight Show would be canceled because Gutfield isn't funny unless you want to just hear someone make fun of democrats all the time.

Again, I'm not even sure why they are comparing the two anyway, they aren't even the same type of show. Though I don't doubt they regret giving Jimmy that much money.

NO one from the other side is going to go on TV with Gutfeld. He is too smart and quick and would eat them alive. They know it, he knows it, we know it.

But there's the difference in the two shows. Who would want to go on a show where they are just going to try and get roasted? It's a late night show, you want to see an actor or musician get interviewed for a few minutes or play some stupid game, not have them on there to have some political argument.

This is true but I also feel like the concept of celebrity itself is dying. I see these promos they constantly run advertising their list of guests that week and I think either "who?" or "who cares".

Name me 10-20 movie stars that have been minted in the last 10 years? What about music - any good new bands? Comedians, other interesting people?

Any other decade you could fill that cup up with interesting characters, exciting young newcomers, etc. Now, it's all crap. Even the crap from 1965-2005 was fun to watch.

Last great late night host was Craig Ferguson. His show blows out any of the current late night shows. It was both funny and bizarre, embracing the fact that he was on at 1 AM. But also he had the best monologue of any late night host I have seen and his interviews were completely natural with no pre screened questions.

Amen. Great show. And don't forget he had this guy as a co host...

We can all get behind this.

I'ld like to see him have someone from across the aisle to discuss topics or projects they are working on and give them a little challenge
No mainstream celebrity would be caught dead on FOX News. He gets who he can. I guarantee Gutfeld would love a left-leaning celeb to go on.

I think what holds him back though is that every night it's the same group: him, Tyrus, Kat Timpf and then some random person (usually a comedian or another FNC employee) bitching about the lunacy of Democrats.

Yep, that’s really holding back the King of Late Night.

Josh Robert Thompson. Amazingly talented guy. He lives a few houses down from me. Those last few years were the best of late-night TV in my opinion. THAT's a rabbit hole worth going down on YouTube. There's a playlist with literally all the episodes from that era commercial-free.

When you have Greg Gutfeld as your comedic representative, I don't think you should be talking about what is and isn't funny.

This is what prevented the original version of late night Letterman from getting many celebrities. People saw his interactions with Cher, Shirley MacLaine, and Madonna and just refused to show up.

Even his later years as Late Night host sometimes caused problems. He had to kill his "Trump or Monkey?" game back in 2014 (before the presidential run) to get DT to come back again.

Part of the game with celebrities is making them look good in return for their presence.

YouTube probably gave him fake subscriptions to make it better than what it should be.
