HBO's @LastWeekTonight has a long track record of citing social science findings without the appropriate context, massaging them to support whatever point @iamjohnoliver is trying to make.

I used to casually watch an episode every now and then and appreciated some of the humor. But I’m a subject matter expert for one supposed story he did and they just cherry picked and butchered their way to the conclusion they wanted and undermined potential trust with the story to make them look like good people. I even know a guy they interviewed for background info and they cherry picked partial analysis without any of the nuance or reasoning.
I no longer watch any second of the show.

When did reason.com become so …reasonable?
I’ve always hated that shouty British style of humor that’s not funny.

This id definitely a problem with his show, but it's also a problem with a lot of news you see on a field one is an expert in. You'll see or read something and go, "That's not how it works."

He straight up lied about trans in sports, citing a bullshite study and claiming the science was on his side while delivering it with his condescending “you’re an idiot if you don’t agree” tone
He’s a propagandist, a professional liar.

I'm guessing you don't watch or listen to any show like that anymore then, as they all do this regardless of their political leanings.

Humor isn’t funny when the joke teller is angry

Nah
His last HBO special was just sad.

2/3 aren’t funny unless you’re over 50 and liked loud noises and one of those is a sitcom.

Correct. The harder a show works to create outrage the more I distrust it and the less it’s on my radar.

He definitely got too bitter the further along he got, but that doesn't mean that some of his stuff wasn't funny. I'd also argue that the further along he got, the less he focused on being funny than making societal points.

A sitcom based on Larry David's comedy, no? And I was never even a big Carlin or Kinnison fan. But I have found them all funny at times.
