Anyone been associated with the shows or have stories about how real/fake they are?

Mine is Fixer Upper. I’ve been in construction/commercial real estate for years. That show is 99% fake. They fail all their inspections, are horrible people and he doesn’t do any work. He literally shows up on site, they spray water on him, he knocks down a wall then leaves. Chip owed 100,000’s to builders and contractors and refused to pay (I was not one of them)

The reality show about the Amish Mafia was the biggest crock reality show that I can remember.

One time Levi the Amish enforcer supposedly shot up a house after his aunt's buggy got run over on the dirt road.

Had a friend that was on Buying the Bayou. He said they paid him to be on the show, and there was never a purchase of the camp like they said on the show. It was all a lie.

Whether or not this is true, has nothing to do with the show .

Eli Yoder (former Amish that left and now tells people about that life) said he knew some of the people in that show. Said they were like him... Amish that left the order.

About 10 years I worked with one of Boosie baby mamas at a previous job. She took time off because they were filming a documentary on his baby mamas ( I think it never aired, but there is a trailer on YouTube). Anyway, I saw the trailer and she was unrecognizable. She was pretty well put together, but in the camera, she was 100% fake.

Similar story to yours, although thankfully the show never got picked up, but I was building for a celebrity designer who had a film crew following them shooting a pilot for a new show. I learned of this after the job started, but it was great working for them (they really were a good client) and I agreed to be on camera. The day before the first shoot I called them to find out what we would be going over and was told not to worry about it, just be natural, bla bla bla. I get to the site, the crew mics me up, I sign the release docs and they say go in the designer is waiting for you, but when you go in the cameras will be rolling - act like they're not there. So I go in, we say hello, exchange pleasantries and then all of a sudden boom - "WHY IS THIS HOUSE NOT COMPLETE? WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG?" I looked at the cameras and said "ok can we cut?" the house was taking long b/c shite wasn't finished being picked out yet by the designer. I didn't want to put them on blast b/c again, up until that point great client.

So we re-shoot the scene, I make up some bs to make them look good. We go to another part of the house that by all means looked fantastic. They got me to act proud of what we had done and then the designer just ripped it apart. I was like a deer in headlights. They said cut, the designer laughed and went to give me a high five saying that was great. I said, ".....hold up one fricking minute". They said "oh don't worry I don't ever make my builders look bad. This is all to build drama. There is no drama so we have to manufacture some. At the end we'll have a big reveal and you'll come off as a hero getting things done in time at the last minute." The next day they were set to film with the landscape architect and his crew. I gave him a heads up. Let's just say I don't think anything they shot with him was useable. But luckily it never went to air.

And millions of white housewives believe it’s all true so they become contractors.

I met Paige Davis when they were doing a house in Nola for that Trading Spaces show. She is lovely.

Also, anyone that thinks that Property Hunters show isnt 100% bullshite is crazy.

She is a teacher and he sells iguanas. Their budget? 750k.

Not the show, but HGTV plays them out to be devoted Christians. He was a pure thief before the show. They are bad people. She’s very talented, but he’s a very wealthy a-hole.

met a gal from Waco last year whose parents had a home renovation from Chip and Joanna. Said they totally screwed up on some basic structural architecture, cheaped out on everything, and were not very nice people at all. Basically a horror show all around, and all the Waco locals know it.

They had to hire another contractor to redo what was done negligently.

Billy The Exterminator caught a porcupine near Pomme de Terre. There's no damn porcupines in Louisiana. Unless someone has a pet

Eta: to the downvoter. You've seen a wild porcupine in Louisiana? Lol... curious

I lost all respect for that fricker when he quoted a homeowner $10,000 to dig a new drain line to move a bathroom.

Just the fricking dig and hookup of the drop, nothing else.

I sat on a plane next to Vanilla Ice leaving west palm beach once. He was on his way to film a house flipping show he was doing. We talked for a bit. He was actually a really cool, down to earth guy. Never watched his show tho. That’s all I got.

That’s a bummer to hear, my wife likes watching fixer upper and I watch it with her sometimes. They seem like they would be decent people but I guess you just never know.
