A couple of stories

1) there was a TV show called "Flip this House" 15 years ago or so. Richard Davis\Trademark Properties were flipping houses in Myrtle Beach. They were using the same landscapers for their property that did the landscaping for my business.
The landscaping guys were telling me the second day they show up to work on the property and the tv crew tells them to go home and put on the same clothes they wore yesterday. They had to wear the same clothes every day so it'll look they did the entire project in 1 day.

2) 2 other couples and Mrs. ClusterCock and I were staying in Austin TX for a couple of day before the Carolina/Texas A&M game. We went to a restaurant called La Barbeque. They were filming a Food Network show called "Worth waiting in line for". When we got there, there were TV cameras and lights everywhere. We were getting in a little late for lunch and the crowd had thinned out. They asked us if we would be in the show because they needed more footage or something. We had been flying since really early in the morning and were pounding beer.

We agreed to be in the show and signed waivers or something. We go thru the line and they film us ordering and then do it again and film the serving crew.

Then we go sit at our table and begin eating - the food was fantastic, beef barbeque not pork like us South Carolinians are used to.

Anyway the director keeps telling is to be more quiet but we're tired, hungry, tipsy. Just happy to be in Texas with good friends just getting started for a long weekend together.

They tell us the episode will be January 27th or so. We all get together with the same friends and others to see us on TV. We've talked about for months now.

So we sat there waiting to be on and we had been cut out of every scene. I guess we were too rowdy. Anyway, its a good story to tell.

If you had to pick a “reality” show that wasn’t completely fake, what would it be? My 600lb life? Seems pretty legit

Thanks for the great story! :/
What can I say except “You’re Welcome!”.

I paint veritable masterpieces with words here.

The reality is the chick we knew was only on for like two or three episodes and got caught lying about work or someone telling her to do something (and she half-assed it) and she was deleted with quickness.

Not much drama and it didn’t reflect well.

So the truth is just about as boring as me not sharing.

Just saw an advertisement for another season of Jersey Shore. How old are these people?

Below Deck

My friend's twin was on a season of Below Deck Med. He was well-liked and seemed to have a great time doing the show. He ended up being close friends with one of the stewardesses and they travel all over the place together.

The Real World was the OG and GOAT show. Take a handful of 20 somethings from different backgrounds, make live live together for a few months, provide unlimited alcohol and sit back and watch the drama.

Now all of these shows are forced/fake when they don’t have to be.

Never have time to watch much TV but I make time for Yellowstone. I know that’s not a reality show but for those I like Below Deck and Southern Charm.

A contractor offered some friends free solar shingles if they would allow it to be shot for a reality home improvement show. The contractor did the work, then the film crew immediately filmed the contractor driving up “three months later” and had the owners brag about how much their electric bills had gone down. It was complete bullshite.

My 600lb life?

My brother worked a few long stretches in Houston a few years ago. He started getting takeout from a Chinese buffet and discovered the weight loss clinic or whatever for one of those fat shows was right next door. I thought it was funny.

I worked on two seasons of Trading Spouses including the God Warrior episode. I personally never witnessed any deliberate tampering or direct manipulation. Of course it was guided by the activities the families did or the interviews.

My girlfriend was recently on Next in fashion and they certainly had a winner in mind before the competition began

Dirty Jobs…..Mike Rowe

They were in town shooting an episode. I stopped by one morning at a local coffee shop and Mike and the show producer were sitting at a table having coffee. Sat at a table next to them. Mike struck up a conversation with me asking about good places around town to eat. He didn’t mention who they were or anything and even though I immediately recognized him I didn’t mention it. Just a normal conversation like you would have with any average out of towner. Ended up talking about food and hunting and fishing. Talked for probably 20 minutes without either of us ever bringing up who they were. Right before they left I asked if they were in town filming any of our local businesses. He told me who, at which I just agreed that yep that was probably a “dirty place to work”. Told them good luck and safe travels and they thanked me for the food recommendations and left. Super likeable and very down to Earth guy.

The CEO of the company I was working for was on undercover boss. We were in the corp office and the only filming was each department in a conference room while the CEO spoke. We were just told to shake our head in agreement and then clap a few times. The rest of the footage was from a franchise location.

Had a friend that was on Buying the Bayou. He said they paid him to be on the show, and there was never a purchase of the camp like they said on the show. It was all a lie.

Couple times seeing that it definitely seems like a baw show. Or baw meets realty reality.

I used to hang out with the film crew for Survivor Nicaragua . The site was maybe a 100 yards from the highway in San Juan Del Sur. The crew was always bitching about having to reshoot scenes because of the trucks driving by and fricking up the "illusion".

ETA: When I was in college I waited on Steve Irwin when they were filming crocodile hunter in Alabama. He was a really nice guy. Good tipper.

A lot of my friends keep trying to get me into below deck

Except for the recent seasons, which are pretty lame due to casting, it’s a good show, relatively speaking.
Beautiful locations and imagery, interesting interactions, attractive often crazy people, etc.
Sometimes the guests are so bad it makes it hard to watch. I recall one where these new money POS wanted the stews to take out, iron and hang all their damn clothes Lot of rude as frick people too.

Vanderpump for lyfe

I’ve been catching up on this one for a while. Definitely has its ups and downs but is good brain rot that you don’t have to babysit to enjoy.
The people are all crazy overall. Some are just horrible. Most of them have ups and downs in that regard.
It gets a bit stretched as it goes along, with the new people coming on, and many pushing their “careers” which usually involves awful, heavily auto tuned singing and shitty dancing.

I would like to know how real / not-real the show "Alone" is. it seems pretty fricking real.

i think Naked and Afraid was pretty real early on? maybe not. i think at this point it is generally just a naked version of Survivor that is much more personality based than scenario / challenge based.

Had a client that's a small business owner that was on Property Brothers a few years back. His wife was hitting on them during the show which aired on TV and that was pretty awkward/funny

But he had nothing but amazing things to say about them. The only thing he said that was fake was them going to look at all the different housing options because one of the rules was you had to already have closed on the home. The contractor brother (forget his name) did do a good amount of work himself. He said they were great guys, went out of their way to spend thousands at his small business and were just generally great people to be around.
