Knowing Business insiders tactics, they went all in trying to get evidence that Schneider molested kids and found nothing so they pivoted to the toxic white male misogynist angle and lumped him in with the actual pedophiles.

Or, since nothing has been adjudicated and nobody has said that Schneider had sex with, or raped them, they can't broadcast innuendo and rumors. Otherwise, they've opened themselves to a massive defamation suit.

This is of a spin-off from this thread, but I finished listening to “I’m glad my mom died” by Jeanette McCurdy (Sam on iCarly) to gain more insight into Dan. In short, the book is her memoir of her life of acting and how that developed into her problems with drinking and bulimia. She also like giving BJs.

Anyway, she didn’t even have the balls to call Dan out by name. Instead she referred to him as “The Creator.” Other than her saying how he was a manipulative A-hole who had a temper and wantied the iCarly cast to get drunk like the Victorious cast, the focus for her downward spiral was her mom and not Dan.

It does paint the picture that these teen actors and actresses may look like they have it all together, but there’s way more happening behind the scenes.

I'm torn on that. It's easy for him to simply say "that happened after I left" as a way to wash his hands of it. But if he is close to his castmates like he says, there's no way he doesn't know about that shite happening back then. Especially when he mentions Amanda Bynes specifically. That came off more as a "let me say the right things but not get into what all I know about it to keep myself distanced from it" kinda thing.

"Investigate more!" *applause* Yeah, okay. Those investigations would go a lot better if the people that knew shite would stand up and say shite. Instead everybody just deals with the abuse because it brings them fame and fortune. So the worst kept secret in Hollywood is the weird deviant sexual nature of everything. But everybody smiles and deals with it. You think Jennifer Lawrence liked sucking Harvey Weinstein's dick? Probably not. But I bet she liked winning her Oscar and all the fame and fortune that she exchanged for those blowjobs.

ETA: And the Dan Schneider part was typical. He says all the right things I guess, so he's handling that the best way he can now....damage control. "I owe apologies to everyone involved and I'm ashamed at my behavior back then..."

If you listen to the Audiobook she does slip and say his name. But yet it is sad and disgusts me

They go where there is a plethora of what they want. Disney has the same problem. The conversation needed is how do you look out for these people, catch them, and protect the kids. I'm no fan of disney but they can only do so much

I still want this answered.

How can someone say that you are "mostly" innocent for rape?

If you kinda raped someone, it's still rape.

I mean, Disney hired Brian Peck to work on a kid's show after he was convicted and went to prison for child rape.

So while I understand what you're saying, maybe Disney isn't the best example since they either didn't even google this motherfricker before hiring him, or even worse, they hired him knowing what he was convicted of.

*spoilers*

So let me make sure I have this right. Drake Bell chose this to be his platform to talk about the sexual abuse he received as a minor while also later was arrested and pleaded guilty to charges of attempted child endangerment and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.

I could be wrong, but I looked up the Drake Bell thing and it wasn’t as bad as I assumed. Not to make excuses for him, but I just assumed it was much worse than texting.

I think he had a minor texting him who was an obsessed fan, but he did not know her age. He likely said some things he regrets while not knowing her age. After he learned her age he stopped contact with her. Then she showed up at one of his concerts and he didn’t even know who she was. I don’t believe he ever did anything physical with her. And I don’t think he was seeking her out.

However, if there is another story let me know. I think he has had issues with drinking as well, but I understand how he has his struggles.

But the focus of the documentary missed, imo, because they tried to act like being an a-hole and a misogynist is equal to raping children.

Actually, in Hollywood today, being a misogynist (male oppressor) is literally worse than being a pedo (oppressed minority group)

I waited until I could watch the doc before commenting:

DS was a power hungry arse hoe who seems like he had a bit of "arrested development" as the one lady said. I wasn't swayed either way after watching except that without more information its hard to determine his level of complicity in the child predator parts of it. At best he didn't ask any questions and probably knew that something was afoot.

The rapists and predators are absolutely horrific and I'm sure that this is just the tip of the iceberg for what really happened (and happens?) with these productions.

I agree with other posters that a lot of this is out of context 20/20 hindsight. The only exception is the Ariana Grande water deal. That shouldn't have been aired and even filmed.

I'm not discounting that this work situation was rough, but Hollywood is a weird place to begin with. Especially in the 90's/2000's when times were much different in what was accepted practice. If you told me that this still happened today, I'd still believe it though.

Same. Neither my wife or I “got” it. Particularly the Schneider stuff.

He was an a-hole. Alright?

Some of that was never aired on nickelodeon.
You had to go online to view "extra content".

In a sick way, it was grooming teenagers to look for erotica online.
The fact that it was saved for online consumption and not the regular showing implies that they knew it wasn't in the right Overton window.
