Question for TLJ haters re Luke:
Posted on 12/28/17 at 8:50 pm

In our beloved OT, Yoda was hiding on a swamp planet while the Empire reigned and Vader had no opposition and Kenobi was hiding on Tatooine out of the game watching over Luke while Vader had no opposition.
Why is Luke being on the island when Kylo is out there wrecking stuff inconsistent with Yoda and Kenobi laying low when Vader was out there?

No one is complaining about him being in the island.
Him being a little bitch and molesting sea cows is the problem

Yoda was hiding from death. Obi-Wan was keeping an eye on Luke. Luke is just bitching out.

I guess there’s not that much difference, really.

You or Scoob need to change your fricking name. I vote you. Change it to Scoobitch.
How do you not see a difference???

Because they had already made their play and failed. That is probably one of the reason why revenge of the Sith had a dual climatic battle against both.
And like Luke says in this one: what, you think I can stand alone against the First Order and wave my laser sword and beat them?
Furthermore, they disappeared with a plan, to bide their time and strike back with the next generation.
A tactical retreat is a far cry from running like a little bitch at the first sign of adversity when the good guys are still on top, and the mess is primarily of your doing.
Yoda and Obi Wan didn’t make Darth Vader.
Having Luke make the Knights of Ren via a “passing weakness” that makes him start to move to murder via reflex is lazy as frick writing.

1) Yoda and Obi-Wan weren't hiding to be cowards.
2) Yoda and Obi-Wan didn't create Vader and then say "Well, good luck, galaxy!"
3) Yoda and Obi-Wan at least had the decency to hide out on shithole planets, not at Shangri-fricking-La.
4) The Emperor and Vader were badasses, not some teen emo brat and an old dipshit that falls for the old "Let me flip on the lightsaber and cut you in half" trick.
5) Luke was only about 60...what's with this "waiting to die" bullshite?
6) By hiding out on that planet, he brought about a massacre on those penguin things when Chewbacca came to find him. Thanks, Gandhi Skywalker.
7) Yoda and Obi-Wan were broke and couldn't afford ships to fight anyway. Luke has his X-Wing ready to go.
8) Yoda and Obi-Wan were contemplating in solitude, not raping sea chickens for their milk. That's just fricked up.
I'll be happy to share more reasons why the situation is different as they occur to me.

Luke was different. Neither Yoda or Kenobi saw the good in Vader. Luke never ran away, he confronted Vader and the Emporer. He saw good in Vader and was the catalyst in Vader’s redemption and turn back to the light.
Luke in TLJ sensed a little dark in Kylo and almost murdered him.
See the difference in how TLJ ruined Luke?

Obi Wan and Yoda disappeared because the Empire was coming out on top with Vader and Palpatine at the helm, and because there was a new hope that had to safely grow.
Luke disappeared because there might have been a chance that maybe Kylo was being tempted by the Dark Side, the source of which is completely unknown to us all because it was cut in half in the middle of the movie.
At the end of TFA, we believe there is a good reason for Luke being hidden on that island, and that he is still committed to being a Jedi considering he still dresses like one. But that turns out to not be the case at all, and his reason for hiding seems to have been pretty easily avoidable, all things considered.
He must've just had to do laundry and his only option was his old Jedi garb. That's the only explanation TLJ offers.

Wait? Obi didn't return from exile and meet Vader mano e mano? Face to face? Laser sword to laser sword? When did that change?
WTF? Did Disney edit out that part, too?
Dammit Rian, you are an SOB!!

I can understand where Luke exiles himself at the realization that the Jedi need to disappear. Let's face it, most of the bad guys are turned Jedi. I could get that.
The whole Luke/Ben Solo Knights of Ren story would've been great. Or, Luke seeking Kylo to eliminate the last threads of the Jedi...with Leia fighting against him. The possibilities are endless.
Instead we get a force illusion Luke and a feminist message.

Well...let's see:
At the end of Revenge of the Sith, instead of retreating to the hills, Yoda and Obi-Wan confronted the evil they had both had a hand in creating. They fought bravely and were forced into retreat when the Emperor came out on top.
But instead of just giving up altogether like Luke did before the events of TFA, Obi-Wan and Yoda hatched a plan together. They realized the offspring of Anakin Skywalker were practically demigods as their grandfather was the Force itself. So they agreed to put them into hiding until they were both old enough to fight the Empire. Special emphasis was placed on Luke, the male heir, as Obi-Wan agreed to go to Tatooine to watch over him until he was old enough to train.
Yoda retreated to Dagobah where the Emperor could not sense his presence. There he would stay until the time was right to come out of hiding and launch an offensive against the Sith and the Empire.
See the difference? Neither Obi-Wan or Yoda had any intention of staying hidden until death took them away in their sleep. They planned to continue the fight but opted for the long game to do it. They didn't abandon the galaxy. If they had, Obi-Wan never would have agreed to go to Alderaan when Luke came to him with the message from Leia.

IMO the biggest problem with the entire Luke story is that Luke himself that he didn’t want to be found.
So why did he make a map?
Then there’s the fact that Poe doesn’t even know the second in command after Leia even though apparently the entire resistance can fit onto 4 capital ships.
You would have me believe that the Xwing squadron commander doesn’t know who is second in command when the entire resistance looks to be only 400 people strong.

I’ll give the story this defense:
He really didn’t. He had a friend hold a piece of the omitted and editedmap to where he ended up going, correctly assuming they would figure out his plan.
If he didn’t go that far, they would have gone directly to his intended destination.
You confuse the TFA plot line.
It wasn’t to figure out where Luke was.
They already knew.
It was trying to gather the pieces to figure out how to get there.
Imagine it being the same as going to Yellowstone, but not having a map of how to get there.

So how do you explain the finished part of the map ending up in the memory banks of R2-D2, Luke Skywalker's droid? R2 had been asleep ever since Luke left for Ahch-To. So it's not like anyone else put it there.

At least Obi Wan dusted his old dick off and went to the Death Star and had a noble sacrifice.
Luke didn't even get that. Way to just piss me off all over again.
