I have a feeling the dozen or so normies are going to figure out a way to individually reverse the effect of the virus somehow. When the English speakers first met in private, one of the first things Carol did was ask if anyone was a doctor or scientist. None of them were apparently, but they can likely translate for the seven we haven't met yet.

Otherwise, I'm not sure you have a multi-season show. 99.9999% of the world just died or became part of a benevolent zombie super computer. Of the few remaining we met, none of them seem particularly interesting as characters apart from maybe the Air Force One dude.

AF One dude has style, no question.

It’s supposed to go four seasons ? so I hope we don’t get a LOST type of show where it’s just one open ended mystery box. Not Gilligan’s style, but we’ll see.

That's the big plot adjacent question (plot based, but not something that any character would be concerned about): how do you extend the interest/drama over one season, much less 4? Especially if many of the remaining normies willingly join the collective. You could theoretically end up with a 2 character show (with obviously a shitload of options for hivemind actors). But I don't think that Gilligan will drag this on ala Lost. He most likely has the main story figured out, then will make adjustments/additions in the future.

X-Files was mostly episodic rather than serialized. Breaking Bad started off with a small time dealer that grew to involve cartel folks, with the main character essentially becoming cartel. BCS started off heavier with family drama and lawyer/crime stuff, then brought in the cartels and eventually Jimmy on the run. Gilligan knows what he's doing, but there doesn't seem to be a ton of plot branches available.

And for the normies that we've met, 3/5 characters weren't particularly interesting, and I doubt that we ever see them again. Black guy and Indian mom will probably show up again.

random thought…carol is the only American among the immune. She also has no family that we’ve met. Her sense of isolation is far greater than the other immune, some of which are natives to countries where the individual is already subject to the state. So in a real sense, so far, she is the last free human on earth.

the “world peace” speech on AF1 was particularly powerful in light of that

Rhea Seehorn is a magnificent actress as everyone clearly agrees. This show has balls

The countdown was to the moment the virus, or whatever you want to call it, broke out. It switched to a count up after that, and it’s just now a point of reference to when the break out was.

this show is also funnier than I thought it could be given the premise. I busted out laughing when they did the tracking shot thru the plane all the way thru the luxury seats to carol sitting coach just to be hardheaded

Good point on the somewhat based aspect of the only American left being the most against joining the hive mind.

I completely missed that. I loved how the collective chose the guy to be on TV in Ep1. I assumed he was the POTUS, but she didn't recognize him. He's some sort of agriculture secretary, but the Fedgov suffered some confusion/deaths, he was readily available, and most of all, he was already wearing a suit.

The show is fantastic so far. I love the premise. It seems like Gilligan can do it all.

I do agree with whoever posted before about the conversation about them not being able to kill, but they won't stop anyone else from killing an animal to prepare for food. I don't think this was just a throwaway conversation. Gilligan is very big on foreshadowing and I see this as being just that. It is a loophole that will allow them a way to have Carol killed if she becomes too much of a nuisance to their objective.

Really strong first 2 episodes. Funny and disturbing in equal measure. Really cool to see Gilligan operating with such a big budget, he definitely makes the most of it. Apple's VFX are second to none and remind me of 2010s HBO with their movie-grade work.

Love all the trademark "process sequences" from BB/BCS making their way here. Really loved the sequence of Zosia (so fricking hot omg) doing corpse disposal then piloting the plane right after - a hive mind would be so cool from a raw efficiency and productivity standpoint. Very thinly veiled AI allegory, but well done.

Does anyone think that Carol "unhooks" people during her short circuiting of the system? They discover a new person after one of her outbursts. May be a key later.

Two issues:

1) Pretty unbelievable that the other unaffected were all on board with it. I could see one or two, but all of them? Come on. Especially when they've been told that the hive mind is working on a solution to incorporate them and that it's mere months away. Surprised Carol didn't bring that up.

2) I don't see how they stretch this into 4 seasons

In episode 1 it was counting down and I don't think it ever got to zero.

I'm pretty sure zero was when the planes went overhead in parallel unison. They made the virus airborne at that point, and everyone got it.

I’m thinking there may be more immune. Or maybe not immune but locked away somewhere away from the contagion. If over 800 million died, be easy to lose track of someone. Also, the government was starting to figure it out. Maybe they covertly stashed some folks. With hive mind, it would be very hard to do. Only very few would be able to know about and they would most likely have had to kill themselves before being turned.

I wonder if animals are part of the hive. The rat in the opening scene appeared to play dead so that it could bite the scientist and spread the virus. It would help explain why they emptied the zoos and don't want to kill animals/insects. But I want to say that there was a line about some freed lions causing injuries. Plus everyone should have seizured out when the mean old Japanese lady shooed away the giraffe.

They took this from episode 1 and green screened the TV, right?

With only 12 people left on Earth that will kill an animal the animal population will be out of control within 2 years.

That is fricking disturbing. After 2 episodes absolutely love this show. I’m with others though, don’t see how this goes 4 seasons.

If there isn’t a way to bring back folks to normal life, I’d start yelling at all of them and have them start dropping like flies. One little bitch and moan session killed 11 million of them. And almost 1 billion were already knocked off with the take over? Could have most of them eliminated within a month at that rate
