I just rewatched the last episode and it looks like the next episode will be available Tuesday night 8pm.

Yeah. No explanation yet. Have they not changed at all in the last 7 days?
I’d really like to know what the world is doing when not helping Carol and the others (after cleaning up the dead). Not sure we’ll get a “day in the life” of a hive person in rural Louisiana any time soon.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but that was the actual mayor of Albuquerque.

Great to see Jeff Hiller get cast. Seems that they don't want big name actors making appearances, but he fit in perfectly.
(Not a huge name, but he did just win an Emmy.)

No spoilers, but is this show worth starting? MTV board saved me from Sons of Anarchy.

That's not easy to answer after only 4 episodes. But our household are big Gilligan fans, and we are into it. I'd give the first episode a try. It starts with a bang and explains a good bit of what is happening, so if you watch that and are not a fan, then it probably isn't for you. Otherwise, the people involved do not typically make crap so my confidence remains high.

Yea Carol being the way she is doesn't bother me. I think the point of EP3 was to show she is just kind of a miserable person and always has been.
the fact she's a pretty miserable person possibly being the key to saving the human race is interesting. she's getting way too much hate on here while we are figuring out where this is going.
just take a deep breath and enjoy the ride.

Episode 4 is another slow drag like 3. She's slowly developing a battle strategy but there's not a lot of intrigue.
i thought it was great. i knew the hispanic dude was going to play a key role in this and now we see he's *exactly* what Carol needs if they're going to have any hope of stopping this.
i love his overly paranoid approach; you know good and well they're seeding the food with all manner of test viruses trying to get one to work so he's the smartest man on the planet right now.

I'm wondering how they will negotiate the reproduction storylines.
Yes, I know AF1 Player had his harem that the hive was catering to, but what about the hive itself?
Is this going to be like a bacteria where the sole purpose is to keep making more of itself?
Will the hive only allow the 'most fit' hive members to reproduce?
Will there be any motivation at all by the hive to reproduce?

If you need constant surprises and shocks each episode, then probably not. If you appreciate a slow burn in world building, you might like this.
As I said in another post, I think binging this instead of waiting a week for each episode is going to make it feel like it flows better. The short season will probably work against it though as so many more stories could be told with more episodes per season.

Finished E4 and I love the show. I thought it was a really good episode and advanced things pretty well.
I absolutely do not get the gripes about this show being "too slow." It makes me wonder if those people have ever seen a VG show before. BCS was the SLOWEST of burns, and was incredible television. And I binged, in its entirety, Breaking Bad in like 11 or 12 days and I remember it being excruciatingly slow most of the time (and still good TV obviously).
But VG is a fricking master of building things up and delivering great payoffs. So I'm not sure why so many people seem to have lost faith in him three weeks into his new show. It's fricking weird.
As for the episode, I hope we see a lot more of hispanic radio dude. We need him and Carol to get together since they are the only two people so far who are against all of the shite that is happening.
I liked the drugging experiment she did. That should come in handy big time at some point. And I like that she started making the list. It reminds me of From when they started writing on the walls to try to piece shite together (and as always here is my shameless plug to watch From if you have not...it is awesome).
I do think the hive is completely full of shite and fake happy/wanting to please Carol though. IMO they try to appease the 13 because they know they are a threat to the hive and its existence. Obviously they want to assimilate, and while they apparently can't lie (which I am not buying totally just yet) they will absolutely not jeopardize the main goal of total domination/assimilation. I also am not sure the "can't kill" limitation is totally true, although I'll ride with it for now since it seems like they could have just killed off the 13 and been done with it...so maybe that part is true.
I do agree with some that I'd like some indication of what the Hive is actually doing the rest of the time while they are not physically assisting the 13. But even though they are hive-minded, they are still human beings so they'd have to eat, use the bathroom, shower, etc. I would assume. But that does beg the question of why some of them are still in their work clothes, as some have mentioned in this thread.
So to play Carol a bit, what do we know so far? I will keep a running list in the thread:
• The show/scenes are set up by a ticking clock. It either counts down (showing a things from before the event) or ticks up (showing things that took place after it happened).
• Something (aliens? It is referred to as "extraterrestrial technology") has taken over everyone in the world.
• It arrived via a signal from space from 600 light years away. It was discovered 439 days prior to the event and the signal was apparently a viral RNA sequence (which is obviously key since everyone was "infected"). Although later it is said to not have been a message, but a "formula."
• It apparently was initially transmitted when researchers created the formula in a lab and one got bit by a lab rat and was spread via mouth (i.e. kissing, saliva swabs, etc.). It was perhaps widespread caused chemically somehow via planes/contrails?
• 886 million people died initially when shite went down.
• They are hive-minded and every single person attached acts "as one," including all knowledge.
• We don't know their goal yet outside of ensuring that everyone on the planet is attached.
• There are currently 13 known people that were not affected by the takeover.
• Of that baker's dozen, only six speak english. And only Carol and the hispanic radio dude see to give a shite about going against the hive.
• The Hive mainly uses Zosia (Pirate Lady) as the main point of contact with Carol (though lots of others also communicate with her). This is partially because she resembles a character Carol created, and also one that Carol is attracted to physically.
• The Hive cannot lie. But they will try to avoid answering things if they feel it is detrimental to the Hive. Or at the very least, they will obfuscate the truth and attempt to change the subject or redirect in order to avoid answering.
• They cannot physically kill/harm or commit violence. This includes humans, animals, even insects. However, they can and will provide services to the 13 that involve dead things (i.e. cooking or preparing meals) if someone else does the killing. The Hive is also vegetarian.
• Their claimed goal is to assimilate everyone on earth, and until that happens with the remaining 13, their sole purpose is to placate them and keep them happy and answer any and all questions and desires of the 13 (except for ones potentially damaging to the Hive itself). This includes providing whatever is requested, regardless of it is harmful (i.e. sexual partners, drugs/heroin, grenades, a nuke, etc.), in order to placate the 13.
• They are strongly affected by what I'll call "negative energy." Especially from Carol (are we sure if she is the only person that has this ability, or if she's just the only one so far who has reacted and achieved that result?). Whether it be anger, hostility, rage, etc., when someone goes off on them if greatly affects the surrounding Hive members both mentally and physically (and even other Hive members not in the vicinity). I.e. when Carol went off on Zosia, she inadvertently killed millions throughout the world.
- They cannot kill ANYTHING that is living, including plants.
- They harvest existing food, food that "dies" on its own (i.e. apples falling out of trees on their own), and dead human bodies (HDP - human derived protein) for sustenance.
- They cannot turn the 13 without accessing their stem cells, and they cannot access the stem cells without consent from the 13.
What am I missing so far?

To organize it a bit:
What's going on
• The show/scenes are set up by a ticking clock. It either counts down (showing a things from before the event) or ticks up (showing things that took place after it happened).
• Something (aliens? It is referred to as "extraterrestrial technology") has taken over everyone in the world.

• We don't know their goal yet outside of ensuring that everyone on the planet is attached.

The Hive and characteristics

YES! Thank you! I can't wrap my mind around bashing the first few episodes of a VG show for being slow. It is Gilligan's standout style and he has earned so much more trust than that.

probably don't need all 13 to stay alive, but at the same time, they are being thorough and want to make sure whatever they cook up works on all.
