Why such a miserable person though?
The insult isn't really called for, is it? Am I required to like the same things as others? It's a day before Thanksgiving, try not to be a prick because people like different movies than you. Forrest Gump sucks, too, and so does a Christmas Story.

I'm 43 and have never seen this.

I will actually part ways with most of this board on PT&A. It’s entertaining, and I do rewatch it every year, but it feels a little dated, and I don’t know that you’re necessarily missing out on anything by not watching it.
Forrest Gump does kind of suck and A Christmas Story is fine, but has kind of worn out its welcome.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Relax, it’s the movie board. This is only slightly more serious than the OT. I do think that you’re missing out on The Goonies though.

I don't know, man, it's poor form to insult someone for no reason and then tell him to "relax." Don't start nothin', won't be nothin'.
The Goonies and PT&A just seem like they are from a time and place that's past, even though it's my generation, and watching them might be pointless now. I think half the appeal for people is the nostalgia for the films, and I have none. Regardless, Happy Thanksgiving.

Loathe and never really cared for a Christmas Story. Similar taste there so maybe you'll like PT&A as I do.
Its not about whether its overrated or not, its about watching John Candy & Steve Martin at their best & having a blast doing it. If you are a fan of them.
Could
""Another couple balls and an extra set of fingers"
Get you to watch it?

You'll never convince me that wasn't Ferris Bueller's dad. As in, like, the universe of those movies. Also prolly stayed behind and banged his goomah while his buddy was effing miserable.

I love this movie and I’m watching it right now, but God it frustrates me how stupid Steve Martin is. I guess that’s the comedy though.
Just take the fricking train or a bus from the get go bro and it’s all good. But then we wouldn’t have the movie

From NY to Chicago? Who would do that?

We watched it last night. John Candy and Steve Martin are GREAT. After watching ‘I Like Me’, I don’t know if John Candy ever really acted, or if he just played himself in every role.
I think we might watch Great Outdoors tonight

We watched it last night.
however, having now seen the extended version of del’s monologue at the train station at the end, I can’t unsee it. The scene now feels incomplete and jarring when it cuts after he says his wife has been dead for eight years. It didn’t bother me before obviously but now it left me wanting the rest of the speech LOL

quote:there wasn’t a whole lot of good options once they landed in Wichita. It’s an 800 mile drive to Chicago from there I guess that would have been the best in hindsight but I definitely would have tried the train first. There was no reason to plan for the train breaking down

Do you think Chicago and NYC are close to each other?
In your own car that's a 15 hour drive minimum b/c of snowy weather and that's in an era where you have to hope your map is up to date and that any detours are well marked. A train or bus that would have a lots of stops would easily take a full day or more to make the trek.

Watched it recently with someone who’d never seen it. What a great movie.

Watched this last night. Yes a classic but the car scenes were drawn out. St Louis to chicago is only like Nola to Houston. 5 hours tops. But they had to change drivers 4 times and stop overnight and still were over 100 miles away when the car caught on fire.
One of them should have easily made the drive to chicago.

True but the original cut also included a scene where Del got them lost and way off course. That scene would also explain why a Wisconsin state trooper pulls them over, when you’d never be in Wisconsin on that route
Further it explains Del’s black eye as Neal punches him when he learns how off course they are

That makes sense. I can see Dell going the wrong way. When they got in the 18 wheeler towards the end Dell said it was a 3 hour ride. I was trying to figure out how.
