PER Collider: Disney pulling the plug on star wars stand alone projects

Multiple sources saying Disney is changing direction on star wars in a big way.
Canceling the stand alone projects in development like Kenobi and Boba fett movies.
They won't use the property to try out unproven writers and directors any longer and are currently assessing the direction for the film franchise post episode 9
This aligns with recent rumors that Kennedy will be leaving Lucasfilm in Sept.
Currently the only projects for. Certain are IX, a new animated series called the resistance that Dave filoni is heading and a live action TV series by Jon Favreau.

Disney panicking. Stand alones aren't the problem.

They completely misread what happened with Solo. It wasn't about Solo at all

Solo was their best SW effort yet

Disney should spend a few years re-evaluating.
Let the Star Wars Land, merchandising, video games, apps and animated series be the money makers while they re-set and give the general public a Star Wars break post IX.
Then, approach a few established, respected filmmakers about whether they would be interested in doing something in the Universe, take pitches, and take the best idea and run with it. Don't over do it. Only focus on ORIGINAL, NEW stories.
That would be the smartest approach LONG TERM.
But they probably won't since they have so much money invested.

Precisely. The standalones are easily the best things they've done since taking over.

Sounds like they still don't have a clue, the two standalone movies have been the best of the Disney efforts.

I kinda still want the Obi Wan movie

Damn you had my hopes up until I actually read the article

In addition to Episode IX, Lucasfilm has officially announced development on a new Star Wars trilogy focused on new characters from The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson, as well as a new series of films written by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. These projects continue to be in development and are not part of the paused spinoffs we’re hearing about.

They needed a Feige to play around with the Extended Universe.
Throwing it all away was a mistake. They needed someone to come in and retool it all into good, concise storylines. There's a lot of good stuff there with Jacen, Thrawn, etc.

Their best two movies were the standalone movies.

Boba fett movies.
Never understood the practicality of this.
He had like a total of 6 minutes of screen time in the original trilogy.
Why not Greedo? We can have a whole back story before he doesn't shoot first.

SOLO was a huge mistake, as were films about Boba Fett or Ob Wan. ROGUE ONE did well because it was a new story. SOLO failed because it was the same old shite, and there's no new story to tell. I'm glad they're stopping the standalones because they didn't, as Freaux pointed out, do anything cool with it. they could have made a Thrawn film or even made their own mythos. Instead they just rehashed the old stuff we've been over a million times.
The standalone films are done? Good. They were bad ideas, and SOLO was a prime example of it. They took a good idea and sucked all of the life out of it.

I believe you mean before he never shoots at all.
It's not a question of Han shooting first. It's more accurate to say that "Han shoots, Greedo dies."

Cut the stand alones like solo and rogue one, full steam ahead with frickstain Rian Johnson’s new trilogy.
Yep, they really have their finger on the pulse of the audience.
