I remember that. It had a Carrie Fisher cameo, before she started looking like a man.
And Shatner, after he stopped looking like a man. (Though Carrie just gained some weight, that's all. Not unusual for older people with slowing metabolism.)
And Ethan Suplee, though not as himself. That was my favorite mainly because I'm a big "My Name is Earl" fan. It tells the story of us.

I still haven't watched it

My post from opening night:
The picking apart of every shitty moment in the movie with the people in that thread was all that got me through that awful time in my life.

I'm surprised to say this...
But
...I didn't like it.
Felt I was watching a Star Wars parody.
I groaned aloud many times at the attempts at humor.
How and the hell do a half dozen red storm troopers put up that much of a fight against Rey and Kylo?
The Rose/Finn love story? Yuck.
I can't see how anyone would ever want to re-watch this.

I believe this, and I’m convinced more than ever he was trolling the audience.

Red Letter Media called it Wheels Spinning the Movie.
Who even gives a shite about this anymore?
They need a hard reboot of star wars fandom. Hire a competent director and a writer who is a fan of the source material and do a story set a few hundred years before or after the original trilogy with no character ties to the original trilogy.

I think we can all agree that act 3 was a mess. But c'mon this is far from the weakest entry, that's still The Phantom Menance. I think the issue is TFA was competently entertaining and the Rogue One being arguably the best entry since Empire, there was a lot of whiplash from PT era incompetence making it's way through.

Me either.

I remember seeing Phantom Menance and wanting to like it and seeing some decent parts in it, but it took at while to sink in that it was just an ok movie.
Force Awakens was ok. Not horrible and had a few redeeming qualities like the above.
Before TLJ was even over I was sitting in the theatre thinking to myself what a just terrible movie. How could they do this? It is almost like they had to do it on purpose to make it that bad.

Cock Commander coming out and exclaiming how much he loved it
Went through 60 pages and couldn’t even find a comment from myself

I've seen them all. I love the originals from when I was very young. I don't go out seeking podcasts and reviews and discussion (other than here, i guess)...I'm a committed casual fan.
It didn't ruin my childhood, but it just pissed all over what had become an epic story, which sucked because while TFA wasn't the greatest movie ever, it was good and it had absolutely established a new direction and set up the potential for an awesome future, which TLJ pissed all over.

This is honestly what I liked about it. The Star Wars movies were, like most longterm franchises, getting stale and boring. The storytelling was utterly boxed in by the expectations of the audience on what a Star Wars movie is. So this movie was genuinely radical: it broke the story. Which, as part two of a trilogy, it absolutely should do.
It upended everything we knew or thought we knew about the universe. To me, that was very exciting. I love deconstructions, so I enjoyed the hell out of Luke turning into angry Yoda.

quote:I said this when they announced the trilogy. maybe have one character, like a super old Luke, but make a new story that isn't completely tied in every way to the OT. As it is, it looks like the peace they fought for in Jedi lasted about 15 years. Nice work, Leia.

But that would have been a risk, and corporations like Disney don't take risks on this large a project.
Because they're fricking stupid. They should know by now that the Star Wars name alone guarantees a billion at the BO. These shitty movies prove it. But they wanted to make all of the demographics happy, saying it was about social justice, etc., when in fact it was just marketing.
Although, I really do believe that some bitterness over the Trump win seeped in. Purple-haired, full-on SJW Dern wasn't who and what she was for no reason.

I mean, I get why people are upset. But it's the exact antagonization of the audience that I honestly enjoy. Audiences should be challenged and made uncomfortable. TLJ has its flaws but I love the idea behind it: let's break the universe. After eight films, it was time to do so.
But I'm not a ride or die Star Wars fan, so it wasn't my ox getting gored.

That's what Rian Johnson is currently working on.

By making Episodes I, IV, VI, VII, and RO entirely pointless. Really they make no sense anymore within the context of TLJ.

Of all the arguments that TLJ is a garbage movie, this is the dumbest. TLJ is a bad movie, but not because it somehow invalidates the rest.

Agree with all of this. I like the idea behind TLJ, but the execution was shite.

If hyperdrive weaponry can solve the plot, then it is a very relevant point.
