Had a home week from work so finally watched it. What a fricking movie. I went in with sky high (no pun intended) expectations, and they were in every way surpassed. I didn’t see any of the trailers or commercials saving myself for it, and a great decision that was. Just everything about it was fricking awesome.
Not ashamed to admit it, but cried at the ending. It’s better than the original. They don’t make movies like this anymore. Probably in my Top 25 just from first impressions. As good of a sequel to Top Gun as Blade Raider 2049 or The Godfather Part II were to their originals, which is as high of praise as I can give. Have a throbbing American erection right now. They need to bring Archer out of retirement to review the movie for an episode.

I don’t even know what that means.
ETA: ah, a Star Wars reference.
It kind of did seem like the Star Wars movie we never had planning the trench run in the original.

Pretty sure the Navy would have frowned on shooting actual SAMs at their aircraft.
Did they actually have a pair of operational SU57's and an operational F14 for this??? If so, that's the most impressive part of the whole movie.
I could have done with more planes and less love story, but damn it was good. There was some good realism thrown in there. Overstressing an airframe, running out of bullets, very liberal use of flares, etc etc. Damn good movie

Also got a throbbing erection when the Taiwanese flag was still on Maverick’s coat. God damn, I fricking loved this movie.

I agree with the complaint.
Like... really thought all the shite after maverick being shot down was rushed and dumb...
But. What a great way to have baby goose in the navigation chair and throwing some call backs.
Also, maverick throwing those flares to protect rooster was a sick move. Loved that scene.

My only gripe. I always enjoyed how Top Gun was real world scenarios and outcomes. The ending was borderline Mission:Impossible type stuff. Getting shot down, meeting up, stealing a plane, taking off from a taxi way. Movie was great and the ending made up for it with the final dog fight scene. Awesome movie and definitely would watch again.
Second was how they made out that the "5th gen fighter" was the baddest plane on the planet, yet this fictional country had a fully functional, gassed-up, weapons-attached F-14 at the ready.
3rd, no way a bunch of Top Gun grads wouldn't know exactly who Pete Mitchell was That's like being a SEAL, in a SEAL bar on Coronado, and not recognizing Richard Marcinko while he's wearing a Trident on his Vietnam-Vet hat.

Man its getting REALLY nitpicky but if I had to complain about shite, there's no way we wouldn't have had F22's in that airspace.
Jamming in the whole F14 thing just to get an F14 in the picture wasn't great either IMO. They could have gone about that differently I guess, like have maverick schooling young guys in F18's with a busted ol F14 and guns only dogfight.
Thats just being an a-hole though. The movie was great. My only legitimate dislike was a little too much love story/nostalgia and not enough planes, but I'm a plane junky.

Saw this in London. Crowd was so calm in the face of such Murican greatness.

I took my dad and son to see this. We all loved it. My dad got his Navy nostalgia going and my son loved the plane scenes. I need to go see it again. Great movie.

Just came back back from watching Top Gun: Maverick with my brother and a friend. I absolutely loved it! Surpassed all my expectations with the flight scenes and the acting all top notch. Tom Cruise was fantastic. I want to see it again soon.

Saw it yesterday with the wife. We loved it. Good story, great acting and action. No BS, just a good entertaining movie. Definitely a throwback.
Glad I saw it in the theatre. But damn the cost. 2 grandkids saw The Bad Guys while we watched Maverick. Popcorn shared, 4 drinks at the Tuesday afternoon matinee. 75 bucks. I know, I know, I’m old and it’s been a few years since I’ve been to the theatre, but damn.

This is a film you can’t get nitpicky about, kind of like the Dark Knight, because if you think about it too much it falls apart. There was a simple solution for this if you think about it: just send the tomahawk missiles to the Uranium facility rather than the airbase… but then we don’t have a movie. This would never happen, but this movie was fan-fricking-tastic and that should obviously be overlooked.

Agreed. This is a movie for you to turn off your fricking brain and just enjoy what they’re giving you. Top Gun was never a thinking man’s film, just patriotic people who love this shite:

Just got out of the theater. Most awesome movie in years. Worth every second we had to wait.
Posted on 6/8/22 at 9:25 pm to OMLandshark
Absolutely. Just like the first one, I will watch it a whole bunch of times.
Posted on 6/8/22 at 10:03 pm to LewDawg
This is gonna be one of the few movies I’ve ever gone back to the theatre to see multiple times.

Just got home. This is how movies used to be. Such a good, awesome, fun movie without any of the Hollywood politics.
