I don't like most of the daughter angle. I understand the set up with Clement making it personnel to Raylan. However, the whole leaving what looked like downtown then continuing strolling down an unoccupied street with burnt out car to entering an abandoned warehouse??? Yes, she is a 15 year old with daddy issues but she's not that "far" out there, nor naive, based upon her interactions to buy the watch. Or is she? Crying about Clement getting beatdown, why??? After the opening scene when they were hit and the gun, you would think she knows better.
I think it has promise but seems clunky and cliché at the moment. But then again what the hell do I know.

My tldr thoughts..
We’re 15 years post justified. It was obvious in the final sequence of the Justified finale Raylan had handled his anger issues and had taken his roll as a father.
Those anger issues dang near derailed every case he had in the OG show but it’s also what made the show good.
Fast forward to Primeval. We still have the calm Raylan. We make it through two episodes and he hasn’t shot anybody and has remained calm. Until Clement messes with his daughter. Just like when Augustine went after Winnona, which sent Raylan over the edge which les him to almost destroy his career by letting Sammy execute Augustine. My hope is the ending of episode 2 brings back old Raylan. If not this show will be weak because it doesn’t display Olyphant at his best. Loose cannon Raylan can make up for weak dialogue to some degree.

They really need to have Duffy walk through the background of a scene.
Don’t even involve him in the story. Just have Raylan give a “did a just see who I think I saw” look and move on with the story.
Maybe have Duffy walk in the hotel, see Raylan, and turn around.

Love the 60 year old fat ugly Star Jones lawyer as this object of every man's desire. Surprised they didn't go full on and cast a trans actress.

The show is ok, the worst for me is the daughter.
You think she would have a clue some guy showing up out the blue.
Will continue to watch and pray she isnt in many scenes

I’ll comment when I finish catching up but did Chris fricking Nolan sound mix this? The dialogue is hard as frick to understand and Willa is damn near impossible.

"It is impossible to step into the same river twice."
I should not have gotten my hopes up for this series. I know it's still early, and will give it a little more time to develop before I quit watching, but I am seeing a bit of writing on the wall here.
The original series was brilliant. It could be that it was produced at a completely different time. Today's world cannot leave something that good alone. It has to be twisted to fit the modern narrative.
All I can say is, the story arc better start developing in a different way than what looks to be the obvious path it is on.
Olyphant's daughter should not be such a central character. It doesn't fit at all.
Raylan should not be dating an obnoxious attorney who very very quickly played the race card in the premier. She is unlike every woman he ever was involved with in the original series and it feels very much like "checking a box".
Why was Raylan at a hearing in Detroit for a crime committed (carjacking) in Florida? It makes no sense that he would even be testifying for crimes the guy committed in Michigan. He had nothing to do with what the guy had done up there.
So many flaws. Lets hope they get this thing somewhat back on track.

The original series had charm. It was fun. Almost every character, good or bad, had a twinkle in their eye.
It was also "pulpy" with Raylan's western gun slinging.
I don't see much of any of that. It's just another "gritty crime drama."
I watched the first episode. I think it was enough.

idk if the show ends up good I'm not going to be all that outraged by who an imaginary character bangs
is it not in line with his previous choices? Nope but as a long as I don't have to see her naked I don't really care, just make sure the show is good.
Due to the setting and lack of returning characters, I think most expecting it to be exactly like the original will be let down. That and the crowd that twists every casting choice or plot move to be something "woke" will ultimately shite all over it too

Me, too. Then I saw that he had an up card when he asked for a "hit." It was a confusing sequence.

I’m legit sad he exited early.
I'd bet we see him again. Seems like killing a "name" actor early in a series sets up a slew of flashbacks.

You totally missed the whole focus of my post and zoomed in on one point out of multiple ones, but I'm not surprised.
Remember Art and Raylan's working relationship? That was phenomenal. I'm not seeing any chance of something like that developing like this in this series. That magic was key in the success of the old series.
Remember how Boyd and Raylan had history that made the story far more interesting? Again, a major part of the success of the old series.
No history on the horizon with any character here, and maybe they wanted it that way, but they are handicapping themselves from the get go without some fabulous story line, but I'm not seeing that yet.
His daughter is making stupid moves, and they are trying too hard to make her what feels like the lynch pin in this show. I don't find that interesting.
There were times during the first two episodes when I thought "Where the hell is Raylan?" He is the central character and is MIA? That makes no sense.
But let's focus for a minute on what you cherry picked out of my post. Ava was a lot of things, and she was beautiful. Winona was beautiful, and a lot of things as well, character wise. Neither one of them were racist though, and neither of them were butt ugly. That's the real bottom line unbelievable part. She is not attractive. If you have to check the box, at least make this lady attractive.
But you do you and focus on "woke". It makes you feel better, I'm sure.
As for me, I'll watch a couple more episodes before I decide, but so far it's less impressive than it could have been. I'm just voicing my concerns at this point in the new series.

Yeah, a bunch of Steven A Smiths in this thread rushing to be the first one with the hot take. I'm actually gonna see where the story goes before I decide if it's the best show ever or it sucks.
The book it is based on is very highly regarded so I do have high hopes

The problem is I don't believe Givens was in that one. it seems they've shoe-horned a fully developed character into an existing story.
I'm not ready to shovel dirt on it yet and an trying to view it (and judge it) as separate from the Harlan saga.

Just finished episode 1. Didn't realize a Michigan judge could throw out Florida criminal charges. Never noticed before but Oliphant has a really weird walk in cowboy boots. Not a great start.
