Alight alright alright...
...discussion is now on the table. Curious to see what everyone's reaction to this was
It definitely came as a surprise to me the first time I watched.
We've had a few on here over the years hate the show because of this. The show has plenty enough titties and awesome story line to make me not care about a 3 second butt pirate kiss.

Definitely surprising, but looking back on it in hindsight the clues were there. We were blinded by Max, Barlow and others.

Great show.

I binged the whole series a few weeks ago and should have kept better notes to discuss specific episodes rather than plot points.
However, on this one.......I had picked up on some of the subtle clues (which I think are easier to pick up on when you are watching continuously) and was not completely thrown off guard. I think overall they had been building to some big reveal between the two and with Flint being a naval man, it wasn't totally out of the realm of possibilities.
Now that is just silly as it was a mere blip on the radar it wasn't near as graphic as half the crap they had in season 1. Good lord, I wouldn't let this ruin what has become my 2nd favorite series of all time.

Also, an interesting real life tidbit on Jack Rackham. Jack is definitely my favorite on the show and it's lead me down a deep dive of all things Pirate and especially Jack.
I'm reading a great book called, Under The Black Flag. Jack (as quartermaster) actually challenged Vane about attacking a Man of War when Vane had ordered a retreat. After re-treating the crew sided with Jack, labeled Vane a coward and kicked him from their ship, making Jack the captain.

Just watched the episode where vane made Jack whole and he looked at Bonnie and said "you have always stuck with her and she's either going to get you killed or you're going to be become everyone's captain"

I'll respond to comments later today, but want to get my thoughts in here now since the discussion just opened. Note: I still have to watch E6, so these comments are just for E4&5:
One thing that confuses me is the importance of the fort. It’s an island, right? A relatively small one at that. So sure, the fort protects the harbor, but anybody wanting to attack can also just get onto the island literally anywhere else and not have to deal with the island’s main line of defense.
I also didn’t understand Flint’s point about how he has the advantage with the ship where it is and he “may never get that advantage again.” Uh, you’re in a spot where the cannons in the fort can’t reach you but your cannons can reach the fort. And that’s because the fort can’t support cannons to the side where Flint’s ship is. So you can literally get back to that same spot very easily. I get Flint’s plan to destroy the fort/Vane, but that didn’t make sense to me.
Oh look, Eleanor is championing Vane once again despite him being bad for pretty much everyone and everything. I feel like I post this every single week. And her solution is to sit down and talk, as if she has any sort of control over Vane (outside of the little control he allows her to have). God, she’s fricking stupid.
It seems a little too easy how Max got Jack a new crew. “I’ve underestimated my last whore.” Jack is so awesome.
Billy’s back!
I totally forgot about Thomas Hamilton’s idea to pardon all the pirates and have them become loyal citizens who will be farmers and shite. What a stupid plan. They are pirates for a reason, and following order and the law isn’t the reason.
Thomas also makes reference to Thomas’s “salon.” Hmmm.
I forgot just how bluntly they talk about Mrs. Barlow’s whoredom. Lord Hamilton is all like “You’ve done enough to tarnish Thomas’s name with all your whoring around…keep your mouth and your legs shut, you sloot.” It’s just so plain and factual.
Pastor Lambrick is so hard up for Mrs. Barlow that he can’t even sleep. Stop putting the pussy on a pedestal, dude.
E4 ending with Flint ordering “Fire” was awesome.
Oh look, the flashback tells us that the Nassau Governor had his wife and infant murdered by pirates. Sweet plan to pardon those assholes, Thomas.
Anne brings jack and Max into the same bed, then gets mad when they want to bone each other. Typical woman bullshite. But at least she recognizes it and backs off a little.
The scenes with Silver and Billy and Randall are hilarious. Silver is trying his damndest to convince Billy not to turn on Flint. Silver's whole arc/plot is so entertaining this time around.
I forgot that we learn about Flint being gay (or I guess bi) this early in the show. I thought it came much later. Also noticed Flint has an earring in only his left ear. I guess that eventually changed between pirate times and the 1980s when it moved to the right ear when you were gay.
So Flint is gone from the Royal Navy because of his shenanigans with the Hamiltons. Pussy remains undefeated as always.
The flashbacks with Flint are so awesome in terms of character building. His journey from a respected navy officer to a pirate is fantastic.
S5 also ends on a high note with Vane lunging in from nowhere. That made me jump off my couch a little.

i took it to mean vane would have scouts watching and ships in the harbor watching to make sure he couldn't get to that location. now which ships could handle a man-o-war is a different question

S2E6
Even Eleanor isn't stupid enough to believe that Charles will hand over the girl. It was smart of him to request a trade for the Spanish MoW though.
Oh look, Eleanor is using her sneetch to try to control Charles. Again. I wonder what she thinks he will do when he wakes up and finds out that she stole the Ashe girl from him. I assume his loyalties to her only go so far.
Also, Vane assumes England wants no part of Nassau anymore, but Billy told the crew the navy is station less than 40 miles away.
Anne fricking Bonny just wrecking shop and causing all sorts of issues. Of course. And Max will protect her. Of course.
What's cool for me on this rewatch is that I have forgotten some of the happenings of people. Like I legit don't remember how the Billy Bones story ends. I know I will eventually remember when I see it, but for now I'm enjoying where that is headed.
Still love Silver having his hand in everything behind the scenes and pulling everyone's strings to advance things forward. It's also funny how things have sort of done a complete 180 and now Silver is Flint's only real friend and ally.
Jack fricking Rackham pulling a fast one on ole Captain Harcourt. How's that slice in your throat, bitch? And then he frees the crew and gets them to join his side to gain the numbers over Harcourt's crew? Genius move. Jack has top-shelf intelligence. It was also hilarious how happy he was to not have women nagging at him for a change and enjoy some peace and quiet on the water.
It seemed like a LOT happened in this episode:
- Flint/Charles fight.
- Flint, Charles, Eleanor, Richard, Miranda discuss the future of Nassau and Abigail Ashe.
- Is this the first time some of them actually hear Flint's plans (i.e. Thomas Hamilton's grandiose ideas) for the future of this place?
- Anne kills one of Flint's crew (and a whore), which will cause problems.
- Anne also found out about the gold, which will cause problems.
- Max and Anne get even closer. I assume Max is trying to gain her as a protector since she seems to have left Jack.
- Jack takes his first prize.
- Jack makes his first head-to-head fight with a pirate captain.
- Jack almost doubles his crew's size.
- Billy is back with the crew and has British pardons on his side.
- Billy also tells everyone that the British Navy is stationed only 40 miles away.
- We also still don't know exactly how Billy ended up in the water.
- Hornigold is mad about the new plan and plans on taking the captaincy from Flint (and retaking the fort).
- Eleanor kidnaps Abigail.
That's a lot of stuff crammed into less than an hour's worth of show.

I finished E6 last night as well. My favorite scenes were Jack and his predicament. I will say I did enjoy the other captain of the Goliath even just for the brief team we knew ye
Interesting interaction with Silver and Flint when Silver told him Flint needs to convince him first to stay on his side. And when Flint gives him his word just minutes after he told Hornigold that his word doesn't mean shite when it comes to the betterment of Nassau
I am enjoying this show but Eleanor's constant bullshite is really starting to get old

I’m still an episode behind so I’m hoping to watch E6 tonight once we get to the camp and get the kids settled.

Nice. I finished up Treasure Island, which honestly wasn't as good as I remember it being from reading when I was younger, but I might jump into something like that next. Just reading all these guys Wikipedia pages is interesting honestly

I have that book on my shelf downstairs. Another good one is The Republic of Pirates.

Finished EP6 last night as well. Great episode.
Anne Bonny gone wild. I forgot about her killing the hooker, that was kind of messed up.
They/Eleanor need to stop trying to appeal to some good side of Vane. Vane does not want the same thing as them. Dude is a pirate through and through, he doesn't care about legitimizing Nassau, he wants it to stay the same. But also for someone not easily fooled, he's kind of easily fooled by Eleanor. Dude should have saw through her coming to sleep with him.

I’m this thread I think it seems appropriate that we call it booty.

I still have two episodes to go on this weeks watch schedule. Been out of town and I'm so tired I doubt I'll get the other two episodes watched tonight before I update the schedule tomorrow.
Ep 7 is fantastic though. I know ep 8 and 9 are even better.

Yeah I’ve been out of town so I haven’t watch any for this week yet. Hope to knock out at least a couple tonight.
Posted on 5/28/24 at 3:49 pm to CocomoLSU
Best time to watch these because you can go right into the finale
Posted on 5/28/24 at 4:12 pm to Esquire
With this next watch schedule do you think we should do just the S2 finale and S3 premiere? Or go the typical three episodes. There's a lot to take in in those two episodes.
Posted on 5/28/24 at 5:36 pm to iwyLSUiwy
Might as well keep it at 3. Just my opinion. Plus with the S2 finale left that leaves 21 episodes remaining I believe, which works perfectly for the three-per-week schedule.
