Btw, I am doing the rewatch with you guys, but I’m behind a bit and only on S2E2 right now. I hope to catch up soon.
Btw, what Flint did to Gates. Smh.

I’d keep the schedule the same.

I'm caught up!
Holy shite this season. I'd forgotten so much.
Anyone else catch the violin player on the man-of-war playing the theme music while waiting for Flint to return?
Missed the whole meaning of the grandfather clock the first time through. Damn that scene was rough.
Lots of main characters died right at the end of this season. Forgot about Randall.
he had really grown on me.
While contrived, the whole assault on Charles town was pretty brutal. Was that the chick's father from Alias doing the governor's dirty work?
I understand James and Mrs Barlow were betrayed but she unleashed hell when she opened her mouth didn't she?
Agree with whoever said the reconciliation thing was dumb. Vane was right. Nobody's going to be cool with England taking over.

Vane having his revenge on Eleanor.
Eleanor going all in to cement her authority in Nassau.
Hornigold putting a stop to that!
Barlow (SHOCKING SCENE) blown away.
Max, Jack & Ann forming a formidable team. Ann saving Jack's arse from Eleanor's' assassins.
Silver weaving his tales. Billy becoming a major force.
Flint realizing the treachery and trouble that he is now facing.
Whole bunch of shite about to go down! Cheers Everyone!

Late getting in the office. OP updated with the new schedule.
Current watch: S2, EP10 (season finale) to S3, EP2. Will be a crazy amount to talk about with these three episodes.
Current discussion: S2, EP7 to EP9.

So much happening here, but the Barlow scene definitely was unexpected.

3rd or 4th watch for me and even I have forgotten a lot. It's the one good thing about having an awful memory, if I go a few years in between watching or reading something, it's almost like it's brand new

Dang, good catch. Did not notice that, that's pretty cool.

Forgot about Randall dying there too. They aren't scared to kill off characters that's for sure.

She chose violence, but didn't know it. I mean you could tell the dude was just waiting to do something/wanted to kill someone, but that was an overreaction. It was an unarmed woman yelling, I'm like come on dude. have you never been around women before? They all do that.

Flint has the most notorious reputation, but clearly Vane is the the guy above anyone else that you don't mess with. I get why she did it, but Eleanor was dumb for betraying him. It's not like she did it when he was off pirating, he was still going to be there in the city.

Barlow (SHOCKING SCENE) blown away.
It was almost like a Game of Thrones/Ned Stark moment, although just not quite as much of a main character. Took me completely off guard when I watched it the first time. Of all the people on the show you thought would get their head blown off, she'd be way down on the list. I think that's part of what makes it great TV though.

Silver weaving his tales.
That story arc/John Silver legend is really starting to get going now.

Can't wait till I hear some first time watchers reaction to the season finale and season 3 opener.

yep, played that part well. you could tell he got off on violence and was pissed the governor's daughter made him stop and humiliated him when he first met Flint in front of his men.
edited for jumping the gun

Might edit that last part, that's for next weeks discussion
100% would be the case with me if I rewatched Deadwood.

I wasn't taking notes as I watched along this time, so my comments are more from an "all three episodes" perspective.
Man Silver is just so fun and entertaining how he manipulates everything and everybody. The whole “the gold is gone” angle is so awesome. Even to the point that he tries to sort of sever ties with Flint now that his end goal is gone.
Of course Anne would tell the story of Jack saving her from her abusive husband (when she was 13!) and turn it into a slight against him by saying that him doing that prevented her from being who she would’ve became had she learned how to handle it herself. Women be shoppin’ per usual.
Ole Billy pulling he okey doke on Dufresne was great. He’s loyal to a fault, but he is loyal. Billy is such a great character.
Vane’s warning to Eleanor in the tunnels of the fort was cool. And you could tell how serious he was because he whispered it to her so hard.
I like Featherstone. He’s funny and a good foil to Jack and their "buddy comedy" is hilarious.
I wonder how Vane was able to track Flint’s ship to Charles Town without being seen. That seems like it would be hard to do with the constant scanning of the waters for sails.
Man, that whole scene with Miranda and the clock was just awesome. And we now learn that Peter Ashe sold them out and was the reason everyone back in London turned so quickly on James. And holy shite, Miranda’s death comes almost completely out of nowhere. I remember being shocked the first time I watched that.
I do also remember how odd Vane’s turn was. He immediately went from ruthless and trying to kill Flint’s guys to “Hey everybody, we should totally all just get along and go set Flint free from Charles Town.” Like literally in a matter of minutes after talking to Silver and Billy for 30 seconds each. But still, who cares because the next episode is about to be fricking LIT.

If Eleanor was smart at all, she would've explained to Vane that this was the right move and that she would've thrown him some puss if he managed to get away from being killed by his men.
Hell, she could've also told him any number of lies that would've kept him at bay. But I guess this was sort of her "all in" moment where she finally makes a choice that can't be turned back on.
I do like how Vane pivoted to taking Flint's ship to pacify his crew. I don't really care much for Vane, but he's an awesome character. And he's what a pirate should be moreso than Flint. At least with Vane you sort of always know where you stand, whereas with Flint you never know if he's gonna pay you or kill you. shite, we saw Billy tell Flint that he is staying loyal to him because Gates turned on him and Flint killed him with the quickness.

on rewatch, i'd argue miranda is the main villain of the series. very subtle but she put all the balls in motion and honestly i think she knew exactly where things were going to go when she started asking about the grandfather clock. she even said she wanted it all to burn.
nassau, the pirates, flint's actions...all for pussy flint didn't even care about.

True, and I guess that is what happened. But in his note to Eleanor I believe he said he was tracking Flint's ship to Charles Town.
Also, side note: it bothers me that it's Charles Town and not Charlestown.

Item #217 that I had forgotten about. I could listen to Silver tell stories all day long. The episode ending with him telling Max the story/what actually happened and the gold not missing was legit.

I think with more screen time, Dufresne could be all time level hated TV character. He's not a major character but man every scene he is in I want to punch him. Just has a punchable face.

For sure. When he went up in the room at the brothel with Jack and Max and was yelling about unloading the boat to make room for the gold and Jack says something like "could you quiet down so the people on the moon don't hear you" had me laughing. Pretty much everything Jack says is great.

I think this is probably the biggest plot hole of the series so far. In the background you could see small boats behind Vane, so I'm assuming that's what they followed him in. But 1) how were they not noticed and 2) how did they keep up because it was a pretty long journey. Just looking it up on the Black Sails wiki fandom it says it was a 556 mile sail.
