It won best picture. One of the the last ones that really deserved it.

What a great film. Definitely a desert island film.

The Cohen brothers are GOAT. Or at least in the conversation. Indispensable, right up there with Spielberg and Scorsese.

Anton is a badass. Josh Brolin is a badass. So many unexpected turns. So many good lines. Wonderful side characters. And as I've turned into the lower 50s, "no country for old men" starts ringing truer and truer.

Same as Judge Holden they say.

I’ve seen 3 movies with Javier Bardem that show a wide range of acting.

No Country

The Counselor. He plays a boisterous drug dealer. Opposite character type than No Country. Lots of cheerful smiling.

Before the Night Falls. He plays a gay writer in Cuba

i never have understood what his actual plan was...once he got down there and found moss he had to know Chigurh would know he was there and looking for the money. he spent all that time telling moss that he couldnt win against Chigurh but clearly neither neither could he

My interpretation:

In Wells' meeting with the man who hires him, he is told "you've lived somewhat of a charmed life" meaning Wells was incredibly lucky his whole life (Vietnam, stock market, etc). Even when he's caught dead to rights by Chigurh he's still cocky because he believes his good luck will prevail because it always has in the past.

Can you steal from yourself?

That was an awful cinematic adaptation of a phenomenal McCarthy book.

One of the top 20 movies of all time.

"What time do you close?"

"Now, we close now."

"Now is not a time. What time do you close?"

You're second point isn't really a complaint, but the whole point was that Chigurh wasn't merely human.

I've never heard this theory before. He's about as close to a Terminator as you could get in real life but definitely not a fan of him actually not being human. Would take away from the movie quite a bit.

There's enough ambiguity for you to interpret it in either way. If he's human but takes joy in the evil of others the change in his stride also works.

Although I like the metaphysical metaphor better.

I had always thought he straighened up a bit because the sirens were getting close so he was trying to look as normal as possible in case the cops passed by. Just went and watched the ending again on youtube to see if it was a bigger "straightened up and walking normal" than I remember.

LINK

Right before it cuts away he is still stumbling. It's not like he's healed/back to 100%. Seems like he wouldn't have needed to even ask for the kids shirt for a sling if that was the case as well.

I have always interpreted the scene in the same way. Also, I think in a subtle way it was a knock on Carson being lucky (until he wasn't). Chigurh isn't necessarily lucky, but he works his way through/out of bad situations.

I've heard rumors that there was supposed to be a part 2 to the movie. Can anyone confirm?

That's part of what made it so disturbingly real.

Did some digging and I didn't find any rumors.

There's no sequel book and the Coens don't really do sequels. It'd have to be an original screenplay written and directed by someone else so it'd probably end up being a disaster. Hard pass.

I thought it interesting but haven't thought about the point of it but when Lewellyn lets his guard down the scene blacks out when POV switches to the Sheriff.

The pit bull sequence was intense. Drying the gun took balls.

No. The way he got smashed at the intersection and then walked off with a broken leg. It didn’t seem to serve a purpose.

Not included in the movie - Sheriff Bell speaking. “Here a year or two back me and Loretta went to a conference...I got set next to this woman...she kept talkin about the right wing this and the right wing that. I aint even sure what she meant by it...She kept on, kept on. Finally told me, said: I dont like the way this country is headed. I want my granddaughter to be able to have an abortion. And I said well mam I dont think you got any worries about the way the country is headed. The way I see it goin I dont have much doubt but what she'll be able to have an abortion. I'm goin to say that not only will she be able to have an abortion, she'll be able to have you put to sleep. Which pretty much ended the conversation.”

It always takes me 20-30 pages to get into the rhythm of McCarthy's writing, but he really was one of a kind.
