Heinlein’s writings - they hold up poorly

This is very true. I mean it's true of several works of various authors from different eras, but Heinlein's work in particular seems to stand out in just how out of touch it became in just about any context. I'd read Starship Troopers a few times over during the Cold War days, and I would say that's the only story of his you can kind of draw some connections to between his writings and any modern setting. But his other 'greats' such as The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land, Battlefield Earth, etc... are just about unreadable. There are some great works from his contemporaries that I would recommend. Outside of Starship Troopers, I wouldn't recommend any of his other works - and might even discourage anyone from reading them if they want something they can actually finish. It's very peculiar how he managed this.

This is all so wrong I can't take you seriously. Battlefield Earth is L. Ron Hubbard for Christ's sake.

This post is more retarded than the “is St. Patrick’s Day the MLK day of white people” post.

The irony is that the original film is supposed to be mocking facism and it certainly does at times but it also accidentally makes it look rather awesome

the trouble with all Utopian ideologies

FWIW for us old guys, Meyer is holding up quite well at 56.
She could definitely pull off an officer's role in the reboot.

Should make a movie from the book Armor by John Steakley which is a rip off of starship troopers but a much better book.
This is a highly suggested read would have won a Hugo or Nebula award except the same yearEnders game came out and won.

Argentinians and Brazilians can be pretty pasty white. Among other things, don't forget all those German speaking folks that showed up right around 1948.

Would make a great series since it goes back and forth between Felix and Jack Crow.

I am 100% in!

There are many white people all over central and South America. Being Hispanic means that your ancestry is from a Spanish speaking country formerly colonized by Spain, which means that someone of any skin tone can be Hispanic, and that people from Brazil are very much not Hispanic. Hiportuguesic?

Why the insult? I was curious what ideas from the book you thought were good for society. I presented a controversial one meant to engage discussion..cause...its..you know... a discussion board.

I was just messing around.. i know its a controversial topic but i liked that the society encouraged and rewarded “skin in the game.” I like the idea of mandatory military service. People always come back with the argument of “what if someone is handicapped?” Israel has a unit of mentally challenged people who retread tires and learn occupational skills. Not putting israel on a pedestal..at all.. they do some pretty awful things.. but thats one aspect of their society i respect.. it gives people a unified identity and set of values
