It is my understanding that the definitive version was produced in the 80s. Why are they remaking it when they can just put the original on their streaming service?
Because the mini series is free on YouTube and they are trying to justify you paying $20 a month for netflix.
Also its been 40 years. The vast majority of people under 30 arent gonna go back and watch a series made before they were born but will check out a "new" series.
They need constant content drops for their business model. Its easier to adapt a book than to write a new screenplay from scratch. They just released Netflix little house of the prairie a few months ago, they can probably use the same sets and locations to shoot this.

Lori will be kidnapped by Indians but will find that Blue Duck and the rest of the natives are misunderstood. They will treat her with kindness and respect and she will fall in love with Blue Duck. Then the evil Augustus Macrae will ride into camp and slaughter the peaceful Indians. Lori Darlin will then give a big lecture to Gus and help him to see the error of his colonialist ways leading to an identity crisis where he will renounce his Texas Ranger ways. I can’t wait!

the rivalry between Dish and Jasper will have gay undertones. Newt also likely to be gay.

Agreed. The original film series is good and a classic, but its quite dated. I tried to rewatch a few months ago and I couldn't really get through it
It’s been probably 10 years since I’ve watched it but I’d disagree here. By this logic virtually every classic western out there would be unwatchable. The story and characters/acting are pretty timeless.
How the showrunner does with East of Eden will determine if I give this a shot.

The fanfics you guys come up with are disturbing. I wonder if the people at work with you know this is what you think about all day.

I think "dated" is a pretty inaccurate description. It was an epic undertaking on a made-for-TV budget. Does the lightning striking the cattle look pretty terrible? Sure. I will give you that. But dated? With that casting and those performances? Come on! I introduced it to my 20-year-old son last year, and he fell in love with it.

LD is one of my absolute favorites as a kid growing up wanting to be a cowboy
Upon rewatch as an adult recently this is how I feel
Duvall’s acting is all time great. Just fantastic and holds up
TLJ acting felt horrific. Forced and the way he talked felt incredibly forced
Some scenes were corny as hell but still fun
Overall still was great but man I left thinking how did TLJ get praise for it

did you read the book? Call was rigid, unemotional, uncomfortable, and stoic.

I for one cannot wait to see a BIPOC lesbian couple facilitate a cattle drive across the United States!
