Netflix to adapt Lonesome Dove

I love this story.
I hope they dont destroy it.
There are soo many lessons in the Series.
Its great.
The only thing that gets me from time to time, is it is a little cheeky/cheesy.
I think that had to do with the director at the time.
But overall it is great.
It needed to be a little darker and not so cheesy.
Gus as Robert Duvall and Cornel Craw as Tommy Lee Jones was great.
Even all of the supporting cast, their stories were hard.
Ive been waiting to read the book.
Cant wait. They may do a great job. But watching someone else as Gus. Pete, Deets.
Its goin to be hard.
I hope they dont destroy it.

Netflix can go frick itself. I’ll keep my Lonesome Dove on VHS thank you very much.

Only watching if they have equitable casting. Need to have plenty of BIPOC representation

Remaking the sequels is not an awful idea. Remaking Lonesome Dove itself is a terrible idea. What actors would have the audacity to fill Duvall and Jones shoes.

As someone who read the book first, I don’t think I like the mini series and don’t get the love for it. It’s so,,,corny

I don’t have an issue with them adapting it. The original miniseries was made in 1989, almost 40 years ago. So pretty sure their target audience wasn’t even alive.
If it encourages young people to seek out the source material and read, then I’m good with that. We’re in a literacy crisis in this country. Anything that might encourage folks to pick up a book is alright even if I don’t end up liking the adaptation.
I look at this the same as I do Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. The BBC 1995 miniseries will probably always be my favorite adaptation. New adaptations don’t change that or “ruin” it for me. I’ll never get that mentality if you have access to earlier adaptations (or the books).
