I've done this thread before, but it's been a while..

What are some movies that you saw that almost nobody else you knew did (or nobody else in general because the movie made no money at the box office)?

Freddy Got Fingered was mentioned in the "worst movies you own" thread and I saw that one in theaters. It fricking blew and I ended up just taking a nap during some of it.

Starship Troopers made a good bit of money, but I'm one of the only people I know who saw it in theaters. And I actually saw it twice. Me and my buddy from class skipped out one day and saw it, and we liked it so much we skipped class the next day and saw it again. What's weird is that for a while after that movie, most people I knew had never even heard of the movie, let alone seen it (or seen it in theaters).

Celtic Pride is another one, although that one barely made any money at all. Went with a couple friends of mine and we all thought it was hilarious.

BASEketball made even less than Celtic Pride, and I saw that one in theaters. I didn't like it at first (mainly because of the dude on dude makeout session at the end), but I really like the movie now.

When I was in grad school I drove to Canal Place to see Synechdoche, NY.

I saw Blindness in the theater.

Most of the other movies I've seen my friends heard about when they came out on video.

I was in the 6th grade at the time when me and a friend of mine went to see Poltergeist 2 at our local theater. There MAY have been 1 other person in the entire theater. When we left towards the very end of the movie the 1 other person in the theater had already left. Our theater at the time only had 2 screens so it was the most empty I've ever seen a relatively large theater ever.

I saw Freddy Got Fingered and Starship Troopers in the theater.

I saw Rushmore in the theater. The only person that I know that saw that was my cousin and he went with me.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Battleship Earth

I am pretty much a sucker for any sci fi movie, these both blew really hard.

Stay Tuned

The cleaning crew was literally sitting in there watching the movie with us. Not a single other person in there, on debut weekend.

Me and this old dude were in there and that was it. Of course I went on a Friday night and that movie wasn't over till Sunday.

Breaking 2 - The Electric Boogaloo (1984)
Last Action Hero (1993)
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) - I didn't pay to see this; my movie was over and I just walked in bored. So...I don't know if this counts.

A lot of these aren't great examples, some of them like District 9 did pretty well at the BO.

I saw Memento at Canal Place 3 times when it came out. Took 3 different sets of people and they were all blown away.

Moon.

Sexy Beast.

Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels, and Snatch.

Office Space (which actually did pretty terrible at the BO but has become, like Idiocracy, a big hit after the fact. I think it only made like 15mill).

Chasing Amy.

did a lot of people see Napoleon Dynamite in theaters?

We had a hard time finding a theater with it, I think just one in baton rouge, and the theater wasn't packed or anything. We thought it was fricking hilarious (and it is) but shortly after that it blew up and the ensuing popularity, merchandise, and movie quoting was pretty unbearable.

I also saw Mortal Kombat in theaters.

I feel like this is the thread I've been waiting for to brag about the foreign and indie films that I watched at the Seattle International Film Fest.

Almost forgot - A Serious Man

(I feel like you have to see a Coen film in the theater but apparently nobody else did)
