Not sure if you all are aware of the recent meme explosion of sea shanties, but it’s got me in the mood for some sea faring entertainment.

What are your best movies about the sea?

I’ve got The Lighthouse and Pirates of the Caribbean (first one).

Already been mentioned but Master and Commander. I so wish they made more of these movies.

I watched it for the first time last night. I really enjoyed it and am not sure why I didn’t check it out sooner.

I want to go re-play Assassins Creed: Black Flag now.

Blame the American film going public. Here’s the domestic box office from Master and Commander’s second weekend of release.

quote:

1. The Cat in the Hat $38,329,160
2. Gothika $19,288,438
3. Elf $19,100,000
4. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World $15,213,896

It fell from its #2 spot behind Elf during its first weekend to #4 behind The Cat in The Hat and Gothika in its second weekend.

I'll second Master and Commander. It's awesome.

And also second Black Sails (pirate show on Starz). I watched that one a year or two ago on the recommendation of this board and fricking loved it.
