Great call on SNL. I have no idea why people watch this show when they can just find the funny clips they come up with every now and then and watch them online.

I will say ER after the first few seasons, Will and Grace, and Grey's Anatomy (which is bascially a rip off of the bad seasons of ER).

I'm actually surprised that more than zero people agree with me on SNL's being over rated.

Everyone knows SNL sucks these days. It had its glory years, but they have long since expired and the show needs to be cancelled.

It's needed to be cancelled for quite some time now. But even when you look at the so-called glory years, it wasn't as great as people make it out to be.

LOST will go down as one of the most, if not THE most, successful television series of all time.

Just look at this board. Almost every thread tops out at 40 posts. A SINGLE episode of Lost can reach close to 1000 responses. I think the writers have done their job so far.

The Larry Sanders Show. And yeah I never understood the love for that one.

That's why Lost is overrated. The X-Files was a superior show in every way but only got a fraction of the hype that show has gotten.

Technically two different shows, but who am I kidding? They were virtually the same show and they both were overrated.

As much as I love LOST, it won't be THE most successful tv series of all time. Yeah it sells incredibly well on DVDs and it may become the most downloaded tv series ever (I seriously doubt it can keep up DVD though, due to shows like Seinfeld). It may become the most successfully heavily serialized show of all time, and will probably go down as the most debated ever, and people will still continue to debate it if the writers do their jobs right, but at this point in the series, not nearly as many people watch the show live.

Didn't X-Files fall apart in the end though (even if it could still happen to LOST)?

Nope. Being overrated means something is highly praised and the majority of the time it does not meet that standard of praise by the majority of the public which is in a position to make a legitimate judgement.

At the moment, LOST does meet those expectations, that's WHY there is so much positive discussion about it from the majority of the public that actually follows the show. The show's ratings and reviews from the public argue the show is right what it should be.

If this show came on in the 90's, it would be. There are too many options out there to allow people to watch the show at any time.

naw

LOST just has a lot of fanboys who refuse to see through the hype of the show and the excitement/energy of season 1

not at all

if a lot of people love a mediocre show, that makes it overrated

This is the first time in the history of the world it has been suggested X-Files did not receive a large quantity of hype. My God, what show unrelated to Joss Whedon has more fanboys than X-Files?

Lost is tremendously overrated, though. the argument hinges on the fact that its quality justifies the endless naval gazing the show has unfortunately spawned. And it has not. Let us be clear: TIME TRAVEL IS ALWAYS A BAD IDEA AS A NARRATIVE DEVICE. ALWAYS.*

I like a lot of things about Lost, but it's mainly just confusing for the sake of being confusing and once it introduced alternate timelines and whatnot, I completely lost interest. the show is completely adrift right now. Each show is so herky-jerky at this point, trying to pick up each plot thread. It's just tedious.

*Primer is a notable excpetion.

I'm not quite on board with the alternate timeline yet either (although I thought last week's sideflash was very good), but the On-Island events have been very interesting so far. I am more interested in what the point of the sideflashes than what the plot is within the sideflashes. The on-Island endgame I am completely satisfied with right now.

The X-Files might have had a lot of fanboys but Lost received a lot more attention from the public. There's a forum that I often read which has over 2000 posts devoted to last week's episode! I don't even think the X-Files series finale would have generated that kind of fan response.

MASH

It wasn't a bad show but it was way overrated when you consider the near worship it was given. It could be pretty smarmy and self indulgent. Especially towards the end.

FWIW, I love Seinfeld. As for Newhart, that was the greatest series finale in the history of television...
