OK, has anyone started a thread on this board talking about how great W&G is? Is there a bunch of Grey's Anatomy fans on here?

The Emmys never even nominated the Wire, so they are not exactly the great arbiter of taste. And Two and a Half Men's success is a running joke. It's like talking about how Titanic is overrated. Sure, it won a bunch of Oscars, but its a fairly well-panned movie at this point. no one is putting these shows on their "Best Ever" list.

For the record,

"I personally didn't like it" =/= "overrated"

For example, I personally didn't like Friends, but I know a lot of people who watched that show and really identified with the characters. I wouldn't call it overrated.

The same is true of NYPD Blue. Not my favorite. I thought the shaky camera bit, which they started, was difficult to watch. However, that technique, which has been refined, has been adopted by many shows since then to better effect. It'd be hard to call NYPD Blue overrated, not least of which because it bolstered/launched the careers of many actors, and it created an iconic character in Sipiwitz (sp?) Again, I didn't watch the show much and didn't really care for it.

Frasier, really? I like the show and watch it when it's on, but it's not like the whole nation is swept up in Frasier mania or something. I don't see how it could be "overrated". The only time it comes on reruns is early in the morning or midnight. If anything I'd say it's underrated.

The original has gone in the shitter, but then again, it needed Lenny badly. The others aren't bad at all, well unless its a Goldblum episode, the guy is fricking terrible.

LOST, however, will be remembered forever for its creativity and uniqueness. If you don't like it, you're just not too bright.

Wow, who pissed in your coffee. Lost is ok, but its not the second coming of Jesus (or for my great Scientology friends, Xenu ).

Homicide says hi.

NYPD Blue is a pretty good call for overrated. It was a universally praised show that was nowhere near as good as one of its main rival shows (Homicide - which actually gets the unfortunate credit for shaky cam). Rewatching the episodes, it does not hold up at all. It's all way too over-the-top.

It's highly rated, but I don't think it's in the class of the other best cop shows. It's a lightweight Hill Street Blues.

ER, strangely enough, I think is now underrated. Or at least its first four seasons. The decline of the show has been so steep and so painful, it's hard to remember how good it was in its first few seasons. It was great before it became a soap opera.

After season 3, then yes I agree. But those first 2 seasons are legendary IMO.

Seinfeld would be the correct answer to this. I would say Entourage, but that would imply Entourage was in fact considered a quality show by someone with half a brain.

that's how I took the question, as well, which is why I would have to say that Scrubs is one of the most overrated shows on here.

I enjoyed Friends during its early years but I always thought the quality of the show was mediocre. I never understood why it was winning so many Golden Globes and Emmys.

Seinfeid? Are you kidding me? That show is undoubtedly one of the most original and greatest of all time. You just cant beat great characters and the impact it had on popular culture.

Proving that it is rated. My view on Seinfeld has always been, "eh". It's good, but nothing special. Original? It's a show about how a standup comic finds material for his act. That's a peering behind the curtain that even Full House was capable of.

Show about nothing? Wasn't arguably Cheers the same thing (focus on a place and a moment of time)? I'm not saying Seinfeld sucks, but it reached this level of critical hosanas that I never quite understood. It was a funny sitcom. So was the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

And it was no Cheers.
