Better Call Saul
The episode where Mike tells his daughter in law about how his son died. I will argue that that scene was some of the best acting in the history of television.

Alot of good ones mentioned, I'll add Opie getting killed in Sons of Anarchy.
100,000% this.
I'll also add the American Dad episode with Stan's dog Kisses.

Band of Brothers. Pounding footsteps as he runs through the woods to report. They’ve found a Nazi death camp before the world knew of the existence of the Final Solution.

I think the series finale of Family Ties was one that I haven’t watched again. But I remember watching it with my mom (rest in peace) and we both cried.
Henry Blake was also up there.

I didn't see these mentioned so I'll add them.
Bojack Horseman episode That's Too Much, Man!
NewsRadio episode Bill Moves On the first episode after Phil Hartmans death.

Could not believe TNG went there. Began the trend of season-ending cliffhangers.

What's up there for all of you as the hardest episodes you remember on the small screen?
Season 1, Episode 12 of The Wire. Bodie and Poot killing Wallace. Kid just wanted out but was a risk. Poot taking the gun and finishing him off. One of the hardest death scenes I’ve ever had to watch.

Whoever downvoted Band of Brothers. I hope that your family is doing well in spite of you.

The Pitt has a tough scene in most of its episodes.
I have to admit the closeup of the woman in the middle of giving emergency birth made me bury my head…

Two different Scrubs episodes:
"My Screw Up" (S3E14) - Ben's death (played perfectly by Brendan Frasier)
"My Lunch" (S5E20) - The episode where Dr. Cox loses three patients to tainted organ replacements.
If neither of those episodes left you hurting, you're just not human.
Futurama episode:
Jurassic Bark - This one will literally tear your heart out and stomp on it.

The Pit just doesn’t have any impact on me whatsoever. Not sure why. I’ll say “Plan and Execution” episode when Howard is killed in Better Call Saul.” I’d also throw The Shield episode when Lem is killed.

Thread made me think of Bodie's death, though not exactly gut wrenching in the way others have intended, esp since it's a coldblooded murderer I'm talking about. Something about him not making it really hit me, for some reason. Shows how good the writing/serieis is, imo.

The View from Halfway Down (Bojack Horseman)
Bojack had no business being as great of a show as it was. I'd put it top 10 all-time

Wife and I are getting around to watching The Pitt finally and just got through S1E8. As a father of two 9 year old girls, holy frick that was the hardest hour of television I have ever seen. Between the drowning storyline and the honor walk, I needed a fricking drink before we started the next episode. What's up there for all of you as the hardest episodes you remember on the small screen?
“The Son” (S4, Ep 5) in Friday Night Lights. I’m an Iraq veteran myself, and that episode killed me.
Honorable mention to the episode in Lioness (spoilers) where the husband pediatric oncologist has to tell the parents of a young boy that he won’t see Christmas and gets punched. Anything kids dying is tough for me but that one in particular got me.
