Finally got around to unpacking one of the boxes of DVDs/BluRays from the move and found this bad boy. Man what a great film; one of, if not, the best sports movies of all time and one of the few actual pure sports movies ever. Kurt Russell should have gotten a Best Actor nod for his portrayal of Herb Brooks.

Would love to hear from older posters what it was really like experiencing all that go down in real time.

Great movie.

I remember a poll a few years back, it was voted as the best sports movie of all time.

As someone who doesn’t like sports movies, this is my favorite sports movie

His accent and costume was nearly worth it alone.

I'm pretty sure I can't pick just ONE "best of all time" but this would definitely make the list

IMHO....Fox deserved it. I like Miracle better than Ray but Fox's depiction was unbelievable.

Johnny Depp is the one that you remove, the rest are fine nominees. Dicaprio probably wins it most years for the Aviator.

Jamie Fox was great in Ray, no issues with him winning

If you’re asking about the actual event, it was amazing. As the game progressed, even non fans realized what was happening and stopped what they were doing to watch. Russia was basically at the top of their game, they had just manhandled the NHL a few years before (with the exception of the Flyers). The actually gold medal game against Finland was anticlimatic.

One of the things I loved about the movie, since it’s based on a real event, was that it wasn’t a buzzer beater, a penalty shot, or other last second miracle for the win.

The tension of needing to hold on for 10 minutes, counting the seconds and watching the clock tick down, was palpable.

I wish Hollywood would do more sports movies like that. Stories can be dramatic and riveting without it being an “it all comes down to this” moment.

It was relative disbelief. There were low expectations for the team after their exhibition performance against the Soviets as well as that Soviet team (one of their best ever, from a pure talent standpoint), wiping the rink with NHL All-Stars. Then, the "miracle" happened. What a great time to be an American that was.

There is a companion 30 for 30 piece from a few years back, "Of Miracles and Men" about the Soviet team, particularly Slava Fetisov. I must say, decades later it humanized a team that Cold War propaganda made it easy for us to hate at the time. Mikhailov (the Soviet team captain), is still salty about that loss in 1980.

Greatest hockey game ever played. It had everything that makes hockey great. Nothing tops the last few minutes of a one goal hockey game when both teams are playing desperate.

Best line of the movie “He put the best goalie in the world on the BENCH!”

It was more than that. Think of where we were as a country. The aftermath of the Vietnam War, the Carter Years, Iranian Hostages, the Soviets invading Afghanistan. The country was a hot mess.

The Miracle on Ice was one of the greatest sports-related moments of my life (as a spectator). Unbelievable victory at a time when national pride was very low. Almost too good to be true ...

It’s superb especially Russell and also how all the supporting cast players were just perfect.
