A moment of sorrow:
Michael Mantenuto who played Jack O'Callahan, Defenseman on the U.S. Olympic team. Injures his knee in an exhibition game but returns against the Soviets and makes a key shot that leads to a U.S. goal.
Respect
Joseph Cure who played Mike Ramsey, Defenseman and youngest player on the U.S. Olympic team. Cure was killed in a traffic accident in Montana on November 8, 2015, at the age of 31.

Mantenuto did not actively pursue an acting career, appearing in only two other films, including the Matthew McConaughey feature Surfer, Dude. He ultimately enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Special Forces communications sergeant and dog handler ("Green Beret"). Mantenuto was part of ODA 1222, B Co., 2nd BN, 1st Special Forces Group, and HHC, 1st Special Forces Group, according to his Army Special Operations Command bio in 2016 he was deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Army Times reported that during his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals, three Good Conduct Medals and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Additionally, Mantenuto created and led a mental health and substance abuse program for soldiers under the supervision of his command. [1]
On April 24, 2017, Mantenuto was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 35 in Des Moines, Washington.

I am a close personal friend of the fellow who played Vladislav Tretriak, the legendary Russian goalie who got pulled after the second period. True fact.

Great moments are born from great opportunity. And that's what you have here, tonight, boys. That's what you've earned here tonight. One game. If we played 'em ten times, they might win nine. But not this game. Not tonight. Tonight, we skate with them. Tonight, we stay with them. And we shut them down because we can! Tonight, we are the greatest hockey team in the world. You were born to be hockey players. Every one of you. And you were meant to be here tonight. This is your time. Their time is done. It's over. I'm sick and tired of hearing about what a great hockey team the Soviets have. Screw 'em. This is your time. Now go out there and take it.
And you all definitely just read that in the Herb Brooks accent.
