I found this guy doing post-episode breakdowns. He's a history professor that adds some more context and quotes to things. LINK

Like others have said, I’m not invested in the character like I was in BoB or the Pacific, but the series has been entertaining thus far.

The most interesting part has been following the 100th through some of their bombing missions. I listened to a podcast where the shows creator said that every hit we see on screen was an actual hit to a B-17. In CGI, they spent countless hours of to get it as accurate as possible for each plane.

Sounds exactly like something a blowhard would say knowing no one would ever go about questioning.

I don’t think so. Listen to the “Making MotA” podcast put out by the WWII museum. The executive producer said they ID’ed each plane in formation to get it right.

The Bomber Mafia by Gladwell explains the Norden bombsight story. Basically, it just couldn't account for all the variables in precision bombing.

I think we’re going to transition to Rosenthal as a prominent lead. Instead of rotating home after 25 missions, he ran 52. He was a bad arse

Great episode

I enjoy the combat scenes but overall, the story is not as appealing. It seems a good documentary on the air to air and bombing raids would suffice at this point.

I guess the reality of it is the life expectancy of the crews is very short and unless completely fabricating the story lines no way to really build strong character arcs throughout the series. The focus has to be on the missions not the crews.

I have a feeling he’ll be a part in whatever further bombing they show, but it feels like we’re about to shift to stories about everyone who bailed up until now.

That was one of the best episodes so far. I was fully expecting Buck to come back, I am pretty surprised they killed him off screen since he was pretty much the "main" character.

I'm going to enjoy it for the story in general, not necessarily the characters. I legit can't tell most of the guys apart, there's been so many characters and most of em don't last so I don't really have any attachment to them. Like it was supposed to be an emotional scene that Bubbles didn't make it back and you were reading the letter her wrote to ol boys wife, and the whole time I was trying to remember who Bubbles was.

It's blasphemous and unfair to compare anything to Lt. Speirs run into (and through) Foy in Band of Brothers, but the introduction of Rosie Rosenthal and his ability to save his ship and crew from destruction in that insane onslaught of German fighters is the one heart pounding moment that I've had in this series. In one scene we went from bombers running from fighters to the pilot giving his gunners the opportunity to go on the offensive. Gives me hope for the remaining four episodes.

I think this was intentional to portray how many men they had to go through due to casualties.

Yea, I kind of knocked the show at first for not having any characters that draw you in, when in reality it's kind of hard to do that when the majority of them die. I wasn't expecting pretty much everyone to die. Doesn't make for great character development/attachment, but just a sad reality.

Egregious if that ends up being the case. It just feels so awkward to have such a prominent character and we basically get a couple of throwaway lines about him being shot down.

And no, I don't want to know if he lives or is dead at this point, so please nobody answer/spoil that.

Can someone explain why they killed off the main character off screen?

He flies off into the sunset on a mission and at the end of the episode it’s all sad faces that no one from the 100th returned.

If he is alive, they lead up with no suspense by not showing the bombing run he went down in.

Weird thing to do to a main character.

From a tv perspective it doesn't make sense, but it makes sense if you think about actual events. These guys took off and just never returned. We, the viewers, are seeing his death or disappearance as the ground crews and families would have seen it.

the British strategy of nighttime area bombing to break the morale of the enemy, which was an incredibly dumb philosophy considering that the Nazis failed to break British morale using the same tactics earlier in the war.

Its always seemed to me that the British wanted their pound of flesh as much if not more than they believed in nighttime area bombing as an effective strategy.

Hard to blame them after the Blitz, but I've always thought it was an emotional more than rational decision.
