First of all, it’s evident you don’t understand what “woke“ even means. Samuel L Jackson, as race swapped nick fury doesn’t necessarily make a movie woke. Having the same character turned into a bumbling clown & dulling the edges of his persona as he was in Captain Marvel, the stupid D+ shows, etc.., that is woke.

I would suggest you check out some YouTube videos because you certainly need the help.

I think in general people think of woke as something that puts the message over the production. So, if it's something someone would enjoy, it's hard for it to be woke because they feel the production outpaced the message.

The biggest complainers are also people who don’t watch the shows. So it’s a little disingenuous to say “oh it’s only when the message is before the production”. there were 0 openly gay characters in The Acolyte.

I didn't complain about Acolyte because I didn't watch it.

I didn't watch it because I knew from the marketing that they very loudly put message over production.

Saying I think it's woke isn't a complaint. It's a criticism. I would complain if I expected it to be good and it wasn't. I expected it to not entertain me so I didn't watch it.

I guess I just see the term being vastly overused, but if we’re using that definition something like the 2016 Ghostbusters would be a good example. Or the marketing for Force Awakens but marketing of course doesn’t affect the quality of a movie but it can affect the box office

The problem of course is anytime a gay character or a main woman character gets introduced you have the same people crying woke or now it’s DEI.

Captain Marvel for example was an ok to good movie that had some problems with writing, the villain, and the weird character direction for Carol, despite her being an Oscar winning actor. Or when this board lost its mind because of a gay character having a 5 second scene with their girlfriend.

Are we going to talk about the show?

After two episodes, it is solidly mid. I won't arrange my schedule around it but if I have nothing better to do on a Tuesday, I'll catch up on it.

The main complaints about the show from other non TD sources have been about boring characters or respect to lore. I haven’t seen it yet, and even if I do I won’t be able to comment on the SW lore outside of the movies and the clone wars show.

I understand what "woke" is and it's clear the people who jump into nearly every thread labeling shows as woke don't.

The whole point of being woke is to be aware of social issues and identity.

Road nailed it with how he was talking about it being overly preachy and forced. However, I feel that is only a small percent of shows that get labeled as woke. Ghostbusters (the all female one) didn't seem like it was trying to be overly preachy. It was just poorly directed and the actresses thought they were in a cheap improv set instead of a major motion picture.

But it gets labeled as woke because people are lazy fricks who want to easily be able to compartmentalize things so they don't have to think about it.

Yeah I made a show thread for people that watch. It still has the usual suspects in it trying to argue wokenese and stuff but there is some show discussion

It wasn't woke, so much as ham-fisted feminist propaganda

I mean, they literally shot it in the dick to kill it.

The only male character is a buffoon an only exists to be pretty for the girls. . .exactly like Janine, you know!

"Attack me with all of your strength"

That is a line that was typed out by someone who was paid to write dialog

Not a single line of dialogue felt natural. Not one.

The idea that Ghostbusters needed a beat by beat recast and replacement of the original male characters for their equivalent (and better!) female characters is pretty damn close.

It may not have been overt, but the subtle idea of it all sure was there.

And they didn't even honor Janine Melnitz one damn bit. Himbo Chris Hemsworth was mildly humorous, but damn... it was like an extended SNL skit, at best.

That's an assumption. An assumption is not a criticism.

There's nothing wrong with basing your choice of entertainment on an assumption, but to call it a criticism is dishonest.
