Disney has previously been thought to be scaling back the MCU, which has recently become overloaded with underperforming films in theaters and vastly expensive shows on Disney Plus. Now, we may be hearing what that will look like in practice.

Insider Daniel Richtman is reporting that Eternals 2 is no longer in development, and other potential projects like a third Captain Marvel movie or a fourth Ant-Man will not be pursued.

Have they finally learned their lesson? Probably not but maybe they're getting tired of losing money.

People act like starting out with Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America weren’t risks. Hell how many people actually knew who the Guardians were before the MCU? It’s not about taking risks, it’s about creating good films. Marvel didn’t get to where they were by just playing it safe they absolutely took massive risks

I had no idea who The Guardians of the Galaxy were but you put a good soundtrack in a fun movie and it became a smash hit.
I had no idea who the Eternals or Shang Chi were either but those movies were just boring.

I certainly didn't. I heard there was a sentient tree and a talking raccoon and I figured it was some kind of joke.

Eternals was a flaming shitshow on ice. The Blade & Black Knight teases were the only redeeming aspect.

Shang Chi was great until it devolved into a CGI fest in the second half. The bus and bamboo fight scenes are some of the best fight choreography in the MCU

The risk ws not in using secondary characters. The risk is spending $300 million to produce movies based on secondary characters. If your movies have to gross close to a billion dollars to break even, you've spent too much. Only movies that deserve those kinds of budgets are sure things like Avengers.

What I really, really love is that Eternals 2, Captain Marvel 3, and Ant-Man 4 were, for a moment, legit "good" ideas that Disney was going to go with. Hilarious. After watching Captain Marvel 3 how could you think anything but..."well that's the end of that."?

The risk is having gay white male hating trannies write movies who want to promote agendas instead of great plots

the problem is this: not every movie is going to be Guardians.

You can’t take 20 risks and expect them all to pay off just because it’s the MCU.

the majority of your stand alone movies should be with big time characters.

XMen and FF going forward.

Agreed. It was a lot of fun until the CGI porn kicks in. They also need to add some personality to that character. He is boring.

They'd have to change the actor. He's unbuttered toast.

I think a big problem has also been the directors are not all on the same page with the interconnections of the big story line.

right now we have a Spiderman-Multiverse, doctor strange incursions, antman quantumverse, captain marvel parallel verse which might be incursions, loki has the TVA which sits at the end of time and space

there's also so many post credit scenes that set up individual movies but not for the big picture.

there's no rules and it's because there's no clear vision besides DEI

Deadpool needs to come in and kill these side characters and story arcs

No. Because to them it’s the characters the audience is rejecting, not the packaging they are coming in.

Really shocked they killed Ant Man

They had created a lot of goodwill before GOTG came out.
That’s been pissed away at this point.

Guardians succeeded because it was a fun non-woke movie. It was not an anomaly.

So who do they have left on the roster for the Avengers that hasn’t been retired, killed off or nerfed?

Not much.

Iron Man bears almost no resemblance to the Marvel movies being made today.

My hunch is they bring Paul Rudd back for the next Avengers movie (if that happens). I would be a little surprised if Brie Larson comes back - I get the feeling she and the Marvel folks are both ready to end it.

If I ran things, I would just shitcan everything in the works except for the Fantastic Four and re-boot the X-Men. The word of mouth on Captain America 4 is bad - they're reshooting a chunk of it, no one gives a frick about Thunderbolts, Blade seems cursed. You make Dr. Doom the big bad going forward and you get away from the Jonathan Majors issue.
