This is offensive. Joan d'Arc was French.

Offensive is a bit strong.

They are obviously not aiming for historical accuracy.

Was it offensive when Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter came out? Spoiler alert: some artistic license was taken.

Spoiler alert 2: The Lincoln vampire movie will make more money

Another spoiler alert: this Joan of Arc movie is one of Lincoln’s unintended consequences.

YES. I'm glad that someone is finally brave enough to say it.

Hamlet and Othello =/= Joan of Arc

In this context it's a character in a play based on a historical character. It's not a traditional historic retelling (at least that's my understanding). I'm curious as to why it's not the same?

Milla Jovovich was a Serbian-born, American playing Joan of Arc. Were you this upset when Joan of Arc was leading the Jazzercise class in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure?

This is a reach and you know it is.

I hate race swapping. I will avoid a show or movie because of it if they swap out certain character. I did it with Foundation even though that was a show I was really looking forward to and know it's a quality show, but the race and gender swaps and story not true to the source made me stop. I'm most likely not going to watch the new Magicians Nephew movie coming out even though I love the Narnia books because I know they are going to drastically change it.

But this is a THEATRE IN SCOTLAND. Nobody, and I mean nobody on here was ever going to even know about this show much less go and see it. One guy on twitter finds out about it and makes it just another thing for people to get matter about when it seriously does not matter at all.

We go to the Shreveport Theatre and when they have a black lady play the Grandma from Willie Wonka I'm not outraged. It's theatre, they don't have 100 people trying out for the role, they just have their actors play whatever roles. If this was a legit film that was going to be in theatres or one that is promoted online on streaming services, sure, I can see being upset, it's dumb to have her as black in a film. But this is a giant nothing burger. Much less something to complain about.

Can you post any reliable sources about Harriet Tubman story being made up? I am skeptical of both sides of this argument due to the nature of social media and race relations these days.
From what I can tell, the numbers of slaves she helped were greatly exagerated, but she did same some.

St. Joan.

Joan of Arc.

Why are we reimagining real people for a modern audience?

For imagined grievances and problems which don't even exist.
