Ryan Gosling has absolutely no business being in a Star Wars film/show

But of course, he’s a hot property right now whom Disney views as a box office draw.

Why? He’s a really good and charismatic actor with chops for action, comedy, and drama. He has a reputation for playing smarmy but likeable rogues in the Han Solo mode as well as reluctant but plucky protagonists in the vein of Luke. What’s your beef with him?

You people who defend the absolute abomination that is Disney couldn’t be any more delusional.

The franchise has lost practically all of its integrity and the magic that once made it special, and yet here you are pretending like that isn’t the case. Just absolutely fricking delusional.

He’s antithetical to what Star Wars is really about. The actors and actresses in Star Wars shouldn’t be larger than life, the characters should be.

When George Lucas made the first three movies, most of the actors and actresses (with the exception of Alec Guinness) were no-named people and none of them had A-list celebrity status. Yet they played the characters in a way that made them feel larger than life.

Gosling is an A-list celebrity whose stardom and fame will now unfortunately deflect the attention from the roles he’s playing to himself as an actor.

OR he was just pleasantly surprised that the movie was good and just wanted to post about it on a movie board.

More odd than a guy simply giving his opinion on the movie is an adult obsessing over wanting the said children's movie to fail.

I just want good star wars content, man. Disney has been a real mixed bag for that. Disney took a shotgun approach, and as a result, there’s zero quality consistency. There’s great content, mid content, and absolutely awful content.

I just want them to put out less bad content and more great content. I don’t have any loyalty to Disney. I have affinity for Star Wars, but no qualms about calling out content when it sucks.

There’s no good reason why the Obi Wan series should look so low budget compared to Andor. Andor looks like HBO while Obi Wan looks like the CW 20 years ago. There’s no reason why a studio should green light a trilogy of an existing franchise without a plan and give the director of part 2 absolute freedom to do whatever they want. That’s ludicrously stupid.

I want Star Wars to succeed no matter who owns it. I’m not going to cheer for Disney made projects to suck or flop. I want the franchise to be good. I want it to be successful. I hope they are learning lessons (which should have been common sense). I hope they raise their standards for what they put out so Star Wars can be as close to a “sure-thing” as possible with every release (as if the Clone Wars movie, Caravan of Courage, and Attack of the Clones weren’t all pretty bad before Disney bought the franchise).

The only way to right the ship is to consistently put out good to great content and stop putting out bad content. Stop making movies and shows FOR children and instead make human stories that both children and adults can appreciate without being pandered to. Stop catering to “modern audiences” and just focus on making well-paced, well-acted, well-shot movies with engaging relatable dynamic characters going on heros journeys through interesting settings with proper foreshadowing, character arcs, dramatic tension, setup, and payoff.

The Mandalorian & Grogu wasn’t mind blowing, but it was good. It did all of the things a Star Wars movie should do. If they keep making movies as good or better than it, the ship will be righted and the trust and enthusiasm of the franchise’s fans can be rebuilt over time.

The Prequels had multiple a-listers playing Dooku, Windu, and Qui-Gon. Ewan and Natalie went on to become a-listers as well. I don’t get this criticism.

Also, it’s not like Harrison Ford was some complete unknown before Star Wars.

Filoni thinks he’s Stan Lee with the cameos. But he doesn’t get it. Nobody wants to see him no as a pilot with multiple scenes.

They were all serious drama and theater actors who didn’t have anywhere near the fanbase following that Gosling has. There’s a difference. It’s the equivalent of casting Johnny Depp.

It's been two years since they've released something down right bad, with a few of the things they've released since being great, and yet this is the type of response that is given. I'm not the delusional one.

Even Stan Lee was a passing cameo in the MCU movies from a franchise he built up for decades. The narcissism and entitlement with modern day Hollywood is off the charts. Peter Jackson sprinkled scenes with him and his kids throughout the LotR movies, but you really don’t see them unless you know where to look. But this is just freaking Dave , plopping himself right in the middle of the movie, stupid cowboy hat and all.

I have been hearing that it is not as bad as what YouTube is saying. I don't really like going to the movies, so I will catch it when it comes out on a streaming service.

I feel like this is a very "rose-colored glasses" view of Star Wars' history.

This movie was a movie and not a Disney Plus season because it moved the cost to a different cost center while Nelson Peltz was attacking Disney.

I did read an article somewhere saying they needed to get it off the streaming expenses

I didn't think it was bad. But it felt like a extra long filler episode of the show. It was like season one where the point was to collect a bounty. Something comes up and then someone associated with the bounty becomes the antagonist.
It was not bad. The only people ITT saying it's bad are the ones who never really watch movies, yet spend hours a day posting about movies they haven't seen. But it wasn't good either. It was fun. It was better than the sequels (low bar). It would have been a great season of the D+ show.
As a movie it'll be forgotten in a few years.

I remember waiting on line for hours for Phantom Menace. Being excited for months for Force Awakens. Now I barely care about Star Wars. Disney really messed it up.

Still I'll never understand watching YouTube reviews and then acting like an expert in a film you haven't seen.

It certainly was a season condensed for a movie. That being said, it didn't try to do anything more than what it it is. It didn't try to move the universe along but may have set up a couple things for down the road. Much like Skeleton Crew, it was just something to sit back and have fun with. We don't need to go deep into the lore on this one

I saw it with my kids over the rainy weekend, kid's outvoted me. I wouldn't call it terrible, but it was pretty bad plot wise. It was basically like watching a 2-hr long extended episode of the Mandalorian. I don't know if that's what they were going for, but it wasn't the kind of story fit for a big screen movie. They threw in plenty of the cutsie scenes with Grogu and whatever you call those other little creatures with the googles to keep the kids entertained, but otherwise would have been pretty boring.
