Saw it with my son, it was like two long episodes of the Mandalorian season 1. It was a great action flick and we ate popcorn and enjoyed it.

“Decent” isn’t going to cut it for Star Wars

The damage has already been done and it’s too late to salvage it now

It is fine. Not the banger they needed, for sure.

Not everything has to be so hyperbolic. There are more options than "OMG great" or "absolute shite".

I strongly disagree here. They are one banger away from re-igniting the IP.

I am hoping Starfighter is that banger.

As long as they have learned to steer clear of that sequel trilogy bullshite, they can bring people back in.

This movie is apparently fine, by most all accounts.

This didn't help Star Wars, nor hurt it. And it gave some people a nice enjoyable outing with their kids.

Nothing at all wrong with that.

It didn’t hurt Star Wars, but it definitely won’t revive the franchise either.

For now I’ll stick to watching the Episodes 1 to 6

This movie was the final death throes of Kathleen Kennedy, that is a key point to remember

Let Dave try

I am not a huge fan of his, but we haven't seen him operating out from under that c-unt

I have faith, until given reason to believe otherwise.

Starfighter is his test.

Favreau, Feloni, and Gilroy. I wouldn’t be opposed to letting Lorde & Miller get another crack at buddy heist movies with the Solo cast.

In my opinion, Feloni should be the main story guy tracking continuity. He’s the guy in the building who appears to understand the characters and lore the most. He also runs the animation wing.

Favreau should be running logistics. Dude knows how to produce content and keep multiple different converging timelines and character arcs intersecting and converging. Dude knows how to make entertaining movies.

Gilroy is an expert filmmaker. Andor is pure cinema. He understands pacing, lenses, shot angles, and how to show not tell better than the other two. The costumes and worlds in Andor feel so real and lived in, the empire feels truly human and terrifying.

So basically, Gilroy takes care of the details of shooting. Feloni takes care of storytelling and continuity. Favreau runs logistics and occasionally directs certain projects.

I am just worried that Disney has unrealistic financial expectations for this movie that if not met, these 3 will get canned. I want to see what these three can really do without “The force is female” running interference.

It’s an imaginary group so I get to use it the same way you do.

Saw it today and enjoyed it, and I had given up on SW entirely and the Mandalorian. Really felt like Season 1 Mando. I liked the scenes on the moon where they went to find Rotta. Definitely had a Blade Runner vibe. Someone told me they intended for these to be episodes but something happened so they had to turn them into a movie.

The forest sequence while Mando was down dragged. Also the Dave Filoni cameos were unnecessary.

It can be salvaged but not as Lucasfilm is currently constructed. You’d have to fabricate some event which would allow you to fire everyone up top. Some kind of scandal maybe. The creatives + leadership they have now and all the subordinates to them do not have the ability to make Star Wars.

I am not sure Gilroy is the main SW guy. His style seems more for slower and intense films like Andor and Michael Clayton. He also directed the worst Bourne film. . .but we'll let that slide.

It doesnt matter who writes and directs when the big Corporate hand is forcing you to put certain elements in it.

Star wars is dead in the DEI era. The Hollywood that made star wars great has been dead since 2012.

It doesn’t matter who they bring to the helm to lead Star Wars. Disney is a corporate giant that exerts full on control over what the dialogue, script, and story is. They don’t give a shite about making something that’s unique, creative, and watchable. They view Star Wars as a cash cow and nothing more. It’s not uncommon for Disney to fire directors off productions due to them deviating the slightest bit from Disney’s executive control.

Time to man up and accept that Star Wars is a dead arse franchise with no future in sight besides being a cash cow for Disney.

Only now will people start to appreciate George Lucas more and more for what he did. The man was a pioneering genius who revolutionized filmmaking. What he did probably won’t ever be done again for a very long time, at least not in our lifetime.
