Looking back at Game of Thrones and Ned’s death

Was Ned’s death the true downfall of the Northern army under Robb? The whole motivation for going to war was to get Ned back, and once he died it seems like they just ended up aimlessly without a true end goal?
I know they were fighting for independence, but Robb didn’t have the numbers to win pyrrhic war to bleed Tywin out until a truce. Even if Stannis won at Blackwater, he wasn’t going to cede the North to Robb.

Never look back at anything, especially explosions if you want to be a cool guy.
Plus it's what killed Lot's wife. But then again she sounded hideous so whatever it probably wasn't a major loss.

Okay well now that I see what your question is...
After Ned was murdered the motivation was to avenge him and destroy the Lannisters. The downfall of the northern army under Rob was Rob's failed diplomacy on multiple levels.

I think if Stannis won, the war probably would've ended, at least for a time. Robb would know his father's wishes that Stannis should be king, along with the Lannisters being destroyed would've quelled things for awhile.

Reneging on the deal with Walder Frey and killing Karstak was the downfall.
And frick GOTs

But none of that happens if Ned doesn’t die. Robb doesn’t become a depressed sad boy because his entire family is presumably dead and Cat doesn’t release Jamie, thus Robb probably doesn’t get with his side chick and Karstark isn’t killing kids.

If Robb doesn’t get dick crazy, he probably wipes Tywin out until he cries uncle.

Robb sucking major cock as leader was the downfall of the North.

I think in the long run the North would have accepted killing Karstark. It was justified. The reality is that Rob put the pussy on a pedestal and fricked up his treaty with Old Man Frey. He let his immaturity think he could just ignore the obligations of people at his level of society at that time.
Had Stannis won at Blackwater I think it would have ended there. Stannis would have returned his sisters to the North and Catelyn would have been able to broker a truce, likely wedding Sansa to a Barathean as part of it, probably Robert's blacksmith bastard after Stannis grants him title.

I remember arguing with people on here saying “ThAt wAsn’T tHe pOinT oF sHoW!”. The dead were far more interesting than psycho Cersei and a horny pirate.
