Kind of like how toys based off the real Toy Story movies are voiced by other actors?
Well, depending on licensing of likeness, movie tie-in toys can vary from their respective actors’ likenesses.
Go look at the first phase of action figures released for Jurassic Park (1993). The Dennis Nedry action figure looks nothing like Wayne Knight. (It was subsequently corrected in later phases.)
What is really working against this concept is that the original Buzz Lightyear action figure is WAYYY too cartoony to have originated from a movie that looks as gritty as Lightyear (2022) looks like it’s trying to be.
Also, in 1995, kids were more likely to buy 3 inch Kenner action figures like the Batman and Star Wars toy lines than a 12 inch tall toy with stupid, pointless functionality.

Have you seen Disney’s profit margins recently? It’s not good.
With that solid analysis, it’s a good thing you’re not running a business like Disney.
Edit: removing the hint. It’s a waste of time

You know this isn't a prequel right? The BL in Toy Story is an actual toy.
So they made a toy based off a movie character and then made sure to have a completely different voice for the toy? That makes no sense.

There’s a new Minions movie in two weeks as well. Lightyear is a flop and people will blame JW, Maverick, and Minions but those are just going to make the flop hit harder. The film isn’t good. There are scenes there for a single reason that do nothing for plot and make some parents uncomfortable. Pandering to one group who doesn’t see these kinds of movies while patronizing another who typically do for no real purpose is a recipe for disaster and that’s what they got.

the second lead is a black lesbian that gets married to another woman and then is pregnant and gives birth to kids.

It was terrible. The lesbian stuff was about 20 combined seconds of screen time and irrelevant. It was the story that was trash.

I saw that the budget to make Lightyear was $200 million
Just curious, how does a 1.5 hour computer generated kids movie cost 200 mil? Guessing marketing takes a big chunk of that.

Marketing, but good animation is very expensive to make nowadays.
Extremely time consuming with how detailed it has become.
It becomes very apparent in the popular anime series out there. Some animation is done poorly during filler components while the peak aspects are beautifully rendered.
This saves some money.
Full movies must be beautifully rendered in entirety, meaning lots of money.

Go watch the first Toy Story and see how they did Andy. Kid looks like an absolute psychopath due to the animation. Kind of creepy.

Not me. I don't have the mind virus. Disney does, however, and they are finally facing the music.

Yeah I'm more worked up over no Tim Allen than the lesbo kiss.
This. Replacing the only guy who has voiced the character for 25 years for no good reason was dumb af.

I’m still blown away at how much this is bombing. You’d think that boys across the country would be badgering the frick out of their parents to see this movie. I was thinking $80 million at worst for opening weekend, but man this might be the most epic “Get Woke Go Broke” in cinema since Solo bombed. Buzz Lightyear is probably the most popular animated character created in my lifetime (if not THE then certainly in the debate), and they manage to bomb that.

The film isn’t good.
I saw it this morning and really enjoyed it. Didn’t even notice the kiss until I thought about it after the fact, even took me a minute to realize when it happened. My 5 year old loved the movie as well.
If y’all think 1 second out of a 145 minute movie makes it “woke,” then that’s on y’all. Must suck going through life letting something so short take up so much brain space. But I’m glad I saw it.

Either none of this happened or you're a pathetic try-hard.
There's no reward for acting like those things don't matter. As stated time and time again, the incremental moves to force absurdities on people is very obvious.

Try hard over what?
On the way home I asked my wife when the kiss happened, she thought about it for a second, and said during the 40th Anniversary scene.
At the end of the day, who gives a frick. Like I said, 1 second in a movie with 8700 more seconds. If you let that one second keep you from enjoying the rest of the movie, again…that’s on you. I would expect a 15 year old girl to hold onto shite that long, but not grown men.

This is people telling Chris Evans and Disney to "ignore" us at their own peril.
