I don't have the urge to watch it. Just don't want to get depressed.

It's a decent movie, definitely not a Joker movie. Kind of dishonest of them to sell it as a Joker film. But if they marketed it as a movie about some random sad sack mental case loser who goes off the deep end it wouldn't have made any money.

Well it wasn’t really a movie about the Joker for starters
It was a very well written script in the genre of Falling Down and they just copy/pasted comic book names into it

Yeah, it was supposed to be this super based masterpiece. The marketing campaign was absurd too. 'Hey, watch out for loner white guys in the theater. They're probably radicalized and will commit acts of violence, you know, like white guys always do.'
Which is probably what they wanted, as the film was made, as always, by people who hate you.

I loved it, and I don't give a shite if it fits into any batverse or comic book universe. I love dark and gritty movies like this and Joaquin Phoenix has become one of those actors I can watch do anything. With regards to Batman and all that it seemed like a more realistic origin story of how someone could become a "Joker" character

agreed. just wish they would have made his character more intelligent to fit in the mold of The Joker.

Good movie. Some of the best acting I have ever seen.
Doubt I will ever watch it again because I just felt all kinds of wrong when it was done.

A movie can be well written, well directed, well cast, and well acted and you can still not like it. This one fits that bill for me. I can see why some people love it though. Just not my cup of tea.

I'm ok with this statement 100%. The movie was good but this is not a Joker that fits into a batman universe. This Joker is an idiot and it would take a drastic change or a fundamental change to the character to make him fit now.
I could have even gotten on board if they made it a point that the Joker character was a hard autistic that just wasn't socially functional but was highly intelligent. Then when Joker focuses on crime, he is honed in 100%. Instead, they made him a dumb loser that other dumb losers could connect with.

My biggest problem was that the Joker is portrayed as an incapacitated & dependent schizophrenic who has to have his weekly pill-box meds filled for him, while also having auditory/visual hallucinations/imaginary relationships...
...and this introverted weakling is supposedly capable of inspiring legions of anarchists/followers, and will one day outwit Batman (& other superheroes), law enforcement/military, city officials/politicians, & domestic/international crime lords.
The movie works as a slice of life re: violent mental illness, much like Taxi Driver did, but not as the origin of the psychotic/mad-genius/crime lord we know as The Joker.

Yeah he was also physically feeble which can’t be inspiring. He’s both dumb and feeble.

Feel free to thumbs down, I want to see how many boos I receive for this thread actually...
I'd argue that Nicholson's Joker was better than Ledger's. Sure I'll get downvoted too.

people who loved it just hate marvel for being successful and wanted to like something else

Its not what I'd call an enjoyable movie, at all. I doubt I will ever watch it again. But the acting, sets, and cinematography are great.

I enjoyed it until the talk show scene... The scene was well written; I just didn't like the way JP acted it.
