People mean having the back story of the Joker.

I wasn’t really responding to those in this thread so much as paid critics who throw that out.

This is a completely different character.

Is it though? Didn’t seem like it to me

Because that's not even the only origin story of the Joker's smile in that movie alone
100% correct. Just daydreaming a bit. I'm not convinced an origin movie should be done. Part of the character's appeal is having no idea how a human being fell that far into madness.

Depends on who'd they cast for Barbara.

Then why was The Killing Joke so we’ll received? It was an origin story. I get the argument that it was also about Barbara and Batman but people saying the Joker doesn’t need an origin story are likely the same ones who have a copy of The Killing Joke in their bookshelves.

It shows him taking care of (living with?) his mother.

It shows him struggling with mental illness while he's still trying to be a comedian.

It shows him seeking help for his mental illness.

This is all brand new stuff for this character.

Assuming the kid is Bruce, the Joker we see in the trailer isn't the real "Joker", otherwise there would be a crazy age difference. This will be an origin story in the sense that he is going in inspire some other guy to be the villainous Joker.

A few of the scenes in this trailer actually made me feel sympathetic for the character. I think Phoenix is going to be incredible.

Perhaps. Or maybe he doesn't do anything big or crazy enough to get Batman's attention.

Because it was Alan Moore torture porn. It was supposed to be a shocking one off take on Batman and the Joker. But, like Watchmen and Dark Knight, fans embraced it as "how superhero comics should be" and the comics companies morphed to the point where the "shocking" stories were the new norm.

I really don’t know if I like the idea of the joker being “turned” crazy. I always see him as someone who was just a pure psycho. Some people just like to watch the world burn. Idk hope I’m wrong but I don’t need nor want the joker to be a tragic villain.

well judging by the kids fricking with him and beating him up with his sign, and the guys on the train making fun of him and beating him up, it looks like he is being made into a tragic villain.

I'd prefer a series of contradictory Joker origin stories, all told by the Joker to different audiences. Like a character study expansion of "you know how i got these scars."
