So you wrote all that to justify why James Bond can’t be a black guy?

TL;DR

If Pierce Brosnan, can be James Bond, anyone can be James Bond

Is this all because of possibly casting Idris Elba? I agree Bond is always the same person, just with different actors. This is different, but Elba is a great British actor so I don’t see how you couldn’t just suspend disbelief like with all the other cast changes. You even mentioned some of the side characters like Q, Moneypenny and Leiter. The latter 2 have both been played by white people before but Naomie Harris and Jeffrey Wright played them most recently and no one really batted an eye. Why is this different?

Simple solution.

Idras Elba as Malcolm Gray - 008, License to kill.

Create a new character working for MI6.

He would be outstanding.

1967. Casino Royale. Revealed that James Bond is a code name. James (David Niven) Bond is retired, his name has been passed down to a new operative.

And yet he’s fine with a black Felix Leiter and Miss Moneypenney.

You are not wrong.....
but you are also wrong.

Of course Bond in his original form is not a codename. That's true. And while many Bonds prior to Craig were more like "tv spidoes in theaters," Craig turned it into one big story.

But the idea that Bond is a codename, is a clever twist that blends with the realities of having multiple films, multiple actors, over multiple years.

Nothing wrong with that idea to take advantage of real limitations.

You mean the one that no longer ever existed since they rebooted the series?

While I agree with you, the orphan thing doesn’t support your position.

In Casino Royale, the new one, when he meets his female contact on the train and they play their “I can guess things about you” game she guesses he is an orphan. She then states that “they” (MI6) look for orphans to recruits as double O’s implying that most of the agents are orphans, former SAS, graduates of Cambridge, etc. Basically she makes the point that Bond isn’t so special amongst his peers.

Not going to happen. The reboot of Dr. No starring Melissa McCarthy is going to set the world on fire.

More overt than subtle, but in Skyfall his parents’ tombstones say Bond, and the groundskeeper he knew from childhood refers to him as James. Blofeld knew him as James Bond as a boy as well.

All of this is correct.

Bond is white, period.

I have no issue with rebooting characters with other performers regardless of race (so long as they have talent for the role) - for example, the Rock could be the T-100 for a rebooted Terminator, a black actress could play Sarah Connor or Ellen Ripley.

But, as for a character that is "iconically" white (or iconically black [should Matthew McConaughy play Kunta Kinte in a Roots sequel]), that shouldn't be fricked with.

Not apart of the Eon Productions canon. Nice try though.
