Except Elba as Bond would violate the first part of your post. He’s too old to play Bond now.

Id say that’s all superficial. The only important parts of the character are his personality. Smooth, fiercely independent, and fiercely patriotic.

Bond without his tuxedo would be like Batman without his cape and cowl.

I can see now that you're just trolling us, but I'll play along...

So the Bond movies where he doesn't drive the Aston Martin, doesn't have a Vodka Martini, doesn't say the catch phrases... those are all out of canon?

Legacy is a hard thing to do with characters.

Comic fans have been dealing with stupid shite like Riri for years when Lila Rhodes existed.

So we got an asspull Iron Man replacement when a perfectly good character in Lila who can work Starktech was sidelined.

Or god, the 4th Indiana Jones movie where they tried to push a Shia Jones for after. The audience said "no!"

A black 00 is no issue. A black 007 isnt an issue. A black 007 that is James Bond is an issue.

Kill Bond, retire him, do it tastefully. It's not like the current narrative isn't a mess of PTSD.

I mean they are always going to put “that scene” in the movie where Bond puts on his tux but IMO it’s played out and boring at this point, like most things in Bond movies.

Skyfall was able to balance the things they had to put in there by making it such a visually interesting movie.

I guess you missed the qualifier in the text you quoted.

If you weren’t a fan of the franchise, why didn’t you just say so from the beginning?

So a book series written 50-60 years ago, and a film franchise that has seen multiple men play the lead character over 50 years, can't have a black guy play the lead character because it is too far fetched, more so than any other thing in either series?

Asking for a friend.

Wow. Some of you REALLY don't want him to be black, do you?

Let me stop you right there. While Fleming has been dead for over 50 years, the Bond books have continued to be written. The latest one came out in May of this year.

If they do a non-white Bond, it may be cool to see an Indian actor get the role, considering how many British colonies were over there.

I think that they've quite proven that his being black is an impossibility.

They have me rethinking my acceptance of blacks in general when it comes to their place in modern society.

I have a bigger problem with Bond books written by a different author than I do with a black actor playing Bond.

Good for you.

I have no problem with a black actor playing Bond. I just have a problem with Idris Elba’s age. He’s too old for the role.

And I don’t want a black actor chosen for the role simply because “it’s time.”

That's quite a response to a fictional movie character that is about as realistic as a cartoon character in the first place.

Hmmm somehow I think your acceptance of "blacks" didn't need much "rethinking".

So what is the next step in denying their acceptance? Voting rights? Employment opportunities? Education? Public transit seating assignments? Water fountain usage? Restaurant access?
